CARTER AND ME by Jordan Warner

Two nights ago, Carter and I shared Valentine’s Day dinner at Chez Philippe. It was amazing. Beyond romantic, to be honest. If I tell you everything, I won’t get to the point of this post.

Yesterday, when Hayes and Roman got back to Memphis, everyone came to my apartment for dinner.

Of course I wanted to see the ring. It was stunning. Even Carter commented on how nice it looked.

Skip ahead to this morning. I got a text from Carter.

“I need to do something this morning. Can I come by and take you to lunch, then we can lock in and get some work done this afternoon?”

I replied: “Sure.”

My thoughts raced. What did he have to do this morning that he didn’t explain? Then, I flashed back to the night before—Hayes’s ring and some looks Carter gave me after looking at it.

The way I feel right now, if he asked me to marry him, I’d say yes. But my thoughts do have a say in things, despite what you might think. It’s way too soon. The six weeks since New Year’s have seen us grow, indeed. But…

Carter seemed normal when he picked me up. Still, no clue what he’d been up to.

We got seated at Huey’s, placed our orders, and then he said, “Saturday was great, wasn’t it?”

“Yeah,” I replied. “Amazing.”

I guess my imagination read something in his expression—I pulled back just enough to search his face. “Carter, please don’t copy-cat propose to me.”

He blinked, surprised, then laughed softly. “Whoa. Copy-cat? Where’s that coming from?”

I groaned and hid my face for a second. “We just saw the ring, that trip, that whole cinematic moment. I don’t need a sequel episode.”

He tilted his head, voice gentler now. “Jordan… I wasn’t going to.”

I peeked up at him. “You weren’t?”

“Our time may come,” he said, brushing his thumb over my knuckles, calm and steady. “But not because someone else had theirs. When I ask you something that big, it’s going to be because it’s our moment. Our story. A time right for us.”

I relaxed. The tension I was holding slipped away.

“Okay, good. Because I want the real thing. Not… a reaction.”

He smiled. “You’ll never be a reaction.”

Be your best you!

Thank-You Message to Paying Supporters:

It is my belief that most of you who help with the costs are doing so because you want to support the production process and show your encouragement. I am honored and greatly moved.

I know that I share a LOT of content FREE TO ALL. I'd imagine that you understand why. The stories about giving back and helping seem like they shouldn't be exclusive. Certain plot moments need to be understood by anyone trying to to follow the stories.

With that in mind, I always consider you, the paid members, when deciding how to share content.

My hope is that reserving a few pictures and small sections of the post for you is a modest indication of gratitude!

Thank you very much for your help underwriting the cost of producing AGI Stories content. You can be sure that your paid membership is valued greatly! At the time of this post (not counting hardware or internet connectivity fees) AGI Stories racks up expenses of just over $100 per month. Every supporter is helping!

Again, thank you very, very much.
