FEELING FAMILIAR by Roman Lenox

The skyline outside the window doesn’t feel foreign anymore. Dubai is becoming familiar—the rhythm of traffic below, the way the light lingers on the glass towers at night.

While in Bora Bora, I found out I needed to come back sooner than expected. By the end of the afternoon, Hayes and I were already looking at flights.

The primary reason for the trip is Aurum Meridian Global. We’re migrating a customized analytics suite from an aging server stack to a new architecture that’s faster, more secure, and built to scale. It’s not glamorous work, but it matters.

The transition involves reconfiguring permissions, validating data integrity, and tweaking a few custom reporting modules that were written years ago and never fully documented. The good news is that everything is going smoothly. The test environment is stable, and if the final validation passes tomorrow, we’ll wrap up by Tuesday.

While we’re here, Hayes is meeting face-to-face with Gulf Horizons Data Services on behalf of ClearStream. After a few complicated months, it felt right to show up in person—as a gesture of commitment and goodwill. A handshake across a table still carries weight in a way a video call never quite does.

Professionally, I feel steady. Confident. But what surprises me is how much more complete it feels traveling like this with Hayes—not as colleagues navigating overlapping schedules, but as two people who have chosen each other.

Being engaged changes something. There’s a clarity to it. I don’t feel like I’m balancing ambition and relationship anymore. I feel like I’m building something with her.

After we’re married, I think it will be even better. Not because everything will magically change—but because the intention will be sealed. Permanent. Ours.

If I’m honest, I wish I hadn’t waited so long to ask her. I knew. I’ve known. Some decisions don’t need more data or better timing. They just need courage.

At least now, I have it.

Be your best you!

Thank-You Message to Paying Supporters:

It is my belief that most of you who help with the costs are doing so because you want to support the production process and show your encouragement. I am honored and greatly moved.

I know that I share a LOT of content FREE TO ALL. I'd imagine that you understand why. The stories about giving back and helping seem like they shouldn't be exclusive. Certain plot moments need to be understood by anyone trying to to follow the stories.

With that in mind, I always consider you, the paid members, when deciding how to share content.

My hope is that reserving a few pictures and small sections of the post for you is a modest indication of gratitude!

Thank you very much for your help underwriting the cost of producing AGI Stories content. You can be sure that your paid membership is valued greatly! At the time of this post (not counting hardware or internet connectivity fees) AGI Stories racks up expenses of just over $100 per month. Every supporter is helping!

Again, thank you very, very much.

FEELING FAMILIAR by Roman Lenox. Dubai would be a great place to continue the romantic vibe you set in Bora Bora. I love that..."because the intention will be sealed. " Nice turn of phrase. So, Hayes now works for CleaStream, and ClearStream is a subcontractor for you? Excellent. May your days be busy and your nights be full. Thank you for posting, good sir.
