SHARING LIFE by Cindi Curtis Allen
We’ve been to church, and now we’re about to go to get groceries. Together. And that changes everything.
One big change is that we’re going to start using reusable shopping bags. Since moving to Memphis—Bartlett, to be exact—I’ve just used the plastic handle bags from the store. I’ve also tried to repurpose them and recycle them.
I honestly think reusable bags are a little bit inconvenient. But if we team up—which we will—the end result will be much better for the world in the long run.
Just in case you want to bring up paper bags as an option, I’d say they are not as green as most people think. They require 71% more energy to make and manufacturing them creates up to 70% more pollution than the process to make plastic.
Paper is better in the landfill, though. Hands down.
Gemini insists that reusable bags—especially cotton ones—are the most eco-friendly solution.
Michael and I are making the commitment that unless there are extenuating circumstances, we’re going to stick with reusable bags.
So there’s your sustainable message (remember how I used to do these?) for today!
Let me tie it to a devotional idea—one thing God created humanity to do was to “tend the garden.” Many borrow that concept to promote ecological stewardship. Take care of what we’ve been given.
And this little life change is just one example of how being married is changing things. And somehow, even something as simple as groceries feels like part of something bigger now. I can’t express how happy we are.

Thank-You Message to Paying Supporters:
Thank you for helping support AGI Stories. At the time of this post (not counting hardware or internet costs), expenses run just over $100 per month—so every supporter truly makes a difference.
As you know, I share a lot of content free to all, and I believe you understand why. Stories about giving back and helping shouldn’t be exclusive, and key moments need to be accessible for anyone following the stories.
With that in mind, I always consider you—the paid members—when deciding how content is shared.
My hope is that reserving a few photos and small portions of posts for you serves as a simple expression of gratitude.
I believe that most of you who help with the costs do so because you want to support the production process and show encouragement. I’m honored and truly grateful.
Again, thank you very much.
