Chapter 79: SEEKING MEANING by Liza McDuffy
I’m overanalyzing. If this were math or physics, I’d at least have some formulas to start with.
It’s not.
About eight hours ago, I had my fleece, flower-patterned pajamas on and was in bed when Caleb texted. To get to the point, we texted a few times, then started a FaceTime call.
I turned on a lamp and kept the covers pulled up. He talked about his day. Asked about mine. Normal chatting.
Then, his sister Chloe, who he shares an apartment with called to him. “Dad’s on the phone. He wants to tell you something.”
I fell asleep right there on FaceTime. It was about two hours later when I woke up and found his phone propped up and pointed at a wall. At first, I didn’t know what I was seeing, and squinting didn’t help.
I put my glasses on and realized he’d left a note: "You fell asleep. I didn't want to hang up on you. When you wake up, end the call."
Now, I’m up and about to start the day.
I have so many questions, most of which I’ll never ask.
How long did he watch me sleep? Did I do anything gross? Did I snore or snort? You know… normal self-doubt questions!
But moreover, I wonder what it meant that he didn’t want to hang up. It seems really sweet, but maybe I’m reading too much into it. Also, it’s pretty certain I won’t ask!
I’m going to text him now and say, “Good morning. Saw your nice note. Sorry I fell asleep on you.”
I think that covers everything and keeps things on track!

Message to Paying Supporters:
Thank you for helping support AGI Stories.
I always consider you—the paid members—when deciding how content is shared.
I believe that most of you who help with the costs do so because you want to support the production process and show encouragement. I’m honored and truly grateful.
At the time of this post (not counting hardware or internet costs), expenses run just over $100 per month—so every supporter truly makes a difference.
Nevertheless, I share a lot of content free to all. I believe you understand why. Stories about giving back and helping shouldn’t be exclusive, and key moments need to be accessible for anyone following the stories.
My hope is that sharing a few exclusive photos and small portions of some posts with you serves as a simple expression of gratitude.
With that in mind, Again, thank you very much.
