Laylana and her Deep Secret CIA team found evidence that would lead to indictments. Turning it over to the FBI marked the beginning of the end of what had been a long operation.

Laylana deemed her time in D.C. productive. After the third long day at FBI headquarters, Laylana was sitting in a park waiting for enough privacy to make a call to Gavin. Things were about to change.

After she, Mason, Dawson, and CIA Deputy Assistant Director Cal Davis had given the last of the depositions and turned over the evidence, Davis took his agents to a newly built Burger King. “We’re probably safe to talk quietly here. Did anyone see anyone following us?”

Laylana and Mason said they hadn’t and Dawson added, “You worried one of the Feds could be in on this?”

“Not worried,” DAD Davis replied. “Open to the possibility. We have to trust the system. But watch our backs at the same time.”

“So what now?” Laylana asked. “We’ve turned everything over, vetted the chain of custody for the evidence, and repeated ourselves for three days. What now?”

Davis looked at his Whopper, then at Dawson. “Soldier, you still okay living on prepaid Visas?”

“Yes sir, if that’s what it takes to serve the country, then yes.”

“Next up,” Davis said, “once the indictments come down, I need to go up the line to my boss, make some reports, and reorganize my deep cover ops team. I’ll get Dawson processed as a field agent, take care of Mason’s back pay, and clean up Laylana’s file. A liberal use of ‘redacted’ and ‘N/A’ should suffice. New assignment: ‘Need-to-Know Only.’ The rest of the team is still dead.”

“Spectrum should be off the map,” Mason replied.

“Evil abhors a vacuum,” Dawson answered.

“Exactly.” Davis smiled. “Vals, get your burner and take a walk in the park. Call Gavin and have your team rally in Orgrimmar.”

Mason smiled. “They told us about their World of Warcraft codes.”

Davis nodded. “Code for Away 2 west of Brownsville, Texas.”

Laylana found a place to make the call. Once the indictments came down, her team would have a new mission.
