GOOD MORNING

Tomorrow is travel day, as everyone will converge in St. Louis for AGI Creative Group’s biggest project to date. Today, we’re going to church, then lunch, then finalizing our trip preparation.

Right now, Jason, Jasmine, Micah, and I are at Denny’s for breakfast before church. The conversation has been interesting and ultimately helpful.

“Me and Isaac were talking last night,” Micah said. “We just don’t think dragging Hudson to St. Louis is a good idea. Isaac says he can take care of Hudson and get work done, too.”

Jasmine was nodding, but she didn’t add anything to the claim.

Micah went on. “Seems to us he’d take away a lot from what you’re trying to do. I’m going to meet him after the factory closes each day and help wrap up whatever cleaning work needs to be done.”

I checked Jasmine’s expression, and it was clear she agreed. “Well, we can make it work with him with us, but you’re right that things would be easier on at least Kaylee.”

“That’s what we were thinking,” Micah said. “We ought to give it a try this time and make sure it works out. If it turns out to be too much, we’ll just work as late as needed and know better next time.”

So the plan changed slightly. This time, it’s clearly going to be good for us in St. Louis and perhaps not too much harder for Isaac.

WALK TO LUNCH

Church is over, and we made some group decisions. Ultimately, the guys took the cars to the marina and left the girls to walk—it was our choice.

Before we left, we invited Kaylee and Isaac to join us at Sea Ranch Restaurant. Isaac said it was a little out of their price range.

Sasha made a logistics call. “We need to talk about the trip to the airport, luggage, and all that. This one’s on the company.”

Kaylee looked at the time. “We got a lot of rentals to turn over today. How long will this take?”

Micah stepped up again. “Jasmine and me will help you. How many flips do you have?”

“We’ve got five today. About six or seven hours,” Isaac replied.

So, once they agreed to lunch, the girls decided to walk. Of course, Jasmine thought we needed pictures for this post, so she took my iPhone.

Sasha got in on it, giving me orders like she was suddenly an art director.

For the record, my walking-in-heels training is going well, but Sasha said, “Carry your shoes. It will be cute.”

To make my point about the heels, I insisted on at least one photo with them on.

Kaylee seemed to think the banter and antics were fun. She was smiling delightfully the whole way there.

So that’s about it for this post, but I’ll be back tonight with an update. See you then.

BOOK THEM by Naomi Prior

I just got off the phone with Ailana Geven. I’m just barely surprised by what she had to say.

She started off letting me know that everything was all set for St. Louis. They are handling everything for the campaign except wardrobe. I’ve got a husband-and-wife team with a Ryder truck hauling all the outfits for the six clients I lined up for this week’s shoot. I wasn’t the least bit surprised they were ready.

What surprised me—barely—was what she said next.

“I want to talk about Kaylee Branch and Jasmine Banks. As their agent, I want you to know you ought to feel free to book them. They have the look. And the heart.”

“I think you’re right,” I said.

“You don’t have to use the rest of the team if you just need models,” Ailana added. ““Feel free to book them. Of course, if you do have an AGI job, let them be part of that, but in between those, book them.”

I was honest with her. “I’m just worried that they don’t have a lot of experience yet. You know how I eased you into the business while you finished college.”

“I thought of that,” Ailana replied. “Book them, and I’ll go with them as a coach and support person to help them through the chaos.”

I let that spin through my head for a moment before answering. “Okay, that sounds good. And if you’re going to be there, I should just book you, too, right?”

“If it helps them get some jobs,” Ailana said, “book me. You know what kinds of things I’d be comfortable doing. I can do a few jobs with them until you think they can run on their own.”

So we agreed. I’ll take her up on being their mentor for a few jobs and see how it goes. I sort of think I know already, and if I’m right, I can put Kaylee and Jasmine on a lot of shoots in the year to come.

GOOD NIGHT

I’m going to keep this short. Everything is set. Everything is packed. Micah and Clay are ready to shuttle us to the airport, so all that’s left is to get a good night’s sleep and be ready to go in the morning.

I made a call to Naomi this afternoon. I wanted to make sure she knew we were ready. She said she wasn’t surprised.

I also invited her to think about booking Jasmine and Kaylee more often. There was some discussion about their experience, so I agreed to travel with them and help them with the logistics of getting through all the steps between waking up and being on set.

She added that if I were going to be there, I should model, too. I didn’t disagree. If that’s what it takes to get them into a regular rotation, it will be time well spent.

Kaylee and Isaac will have to adjust how they think about their cleaning business, but if Kaylee is back in town from Friday through Sunday, she’ll be able to work most of the jobs.

I’ll have some time to talk to Kaylee and Jasmine on the plane and over the next few days. I’m confident this can be a steady source of income for them both.

Like it was for me all those years.
