OKAY, THAT ALL HAPPENED by Cindi Curtis Allen
I’ll spare you a reprise of me saying that a year ago, I never would have believed today could happen.
Hayes picked me up early andwe headed downtown to Roman’s office for immersion into—as Hayes called it—independent contractor work. I had a little panic attack on the 240 North loop. Hayes said that was sort of ubiquitous for driving in Memphis rush hour.
<sarcasm>I didn’t know Memphis posted speed limit signs in base 13… </sarcasm>
The elevator to his office was crowded. I didn’t know what to do with my hands, so I just folded them together in front and took long, slow breaths.
The partner who does HR, Claire Marston, the partner who handles HR, had all my papers ready for signature. I had sent in my I-9 documents earlier this week. It was fast and easy.
After that, it was pretty easy. Roman and I sat in what they call the server room, which actually has a few LAN servers in it, and connected to the AWS servers where they actually keep the good stuff. We looked at file directories and databases.
He gave me a beast of a laptop with all the logins pre-configured. Once I log into it, I’m connected to everything.
We duped all of his production files into a dev environment, and created a couple of test customers in the database.
“So,” he said, “you’re going to create the customer interface and the authentication server system that links it all?”
I nodded. “Once it’s all working, we’ll change the pointers on the authentication server from dev to prod and be ready for a go-live. We’ll roll it out to the test customers first, of course.”
Meeting over. Plan laid.
Let the celebratory lunch begin.

Message to Paying Supporters:
Thank you for helping support AGI Stories.
I always consider you—the paid members—when deciding how content is shared.
I believe that most of you who help with the costs do so because you want to support the production process and show encouragement. I’m honored and truly grateful.
At the time of this post (not counting hardware or internet costs), expenses run just over $100 per month—so every supporter truly makes a difference.
Nevertheless, I share a lot of content free to all. I believe you understand why. Stories about giving back and helping shouldn’t be exclusive, and key moments need to be accessible for anyone following the stories.
My hope is that sharing a few exclusive photos and small portions of some posts with you serves as a simple expression of gratitude.
With that in mind, again, thank you very much.
