Chapter 106: TASK FORCE: BROOKLYN by Olivia Medina
Earlier this year, I was—from an official FBI point of view—assigned to a private security task force to (a) assist in the protection of a high-profile protectee and(b) gather relevant intel on threats, real or suspected.
Let’s be honest…
I’ve spent four and a half months selling office supplies and making friends. Of course, Shay—AKA Mara—has been kept safe. I did have one occasion to intervene just in time to prevent dreadful misfortune.
I found a long-out-of-date bottle of heavy creamer in the back of the fridge. Call it a microbiology project?
I put it on the counter and was going to pour it down the drain, but decided to rinse my cup first. While I was between the sink and dishwasher, Shay and Devon came in from the common-area kitchenette, chatting over their freshly brewed mugs of coffee.
Shay was a blink away from ruining her cup with the biohazard I had found in the fridge before I could stop her. Not sure I’ll get a medal for that.
Honestly, this assignment isn’t going to do much for my FBI career other than add time on duty to my service record. It is, however, a massive plus if I ever want to go into private security.
I work with the team from Ryder Family Protective Services. The Brooklyn team is led by Eric Marsten, former Secret Service. Undercover with me is Conner Wiltshire, former Army Ranger.
Conner and I click. Officially, he’s supposed to give me some downtime periodically. He’s on call 24/7, living in another unit of the apartments.
Operationally, most days once Shay gets busy with the office supply business (which wasn’t supposed to be real, but ended up exploding), Conner and I take a position near the entrance to the apartments’ common area where we can see everything and keep watch together.
It’s relaxed. But we don’t slack—not at all.
So, no, I’m not going into the FBI hall of fame for this assignment. I’m okay with that—to be honest, it has actually started to feel more like a life than a job.

Message to Paying Supporters:
Thank you for helping support AGI Stories.
I always consider you—the paid members—when deciding how content is shared.
I believe that most of you who help with the costs do so because you want to support the production process and show encouragement. I’m honored and truly grateful.
At the time of this post (not counting hardware or internet costs), expenses run just over $100 per month—so every supporter truly makes a difference.
Nevertheless, I share a lot of content free to all. I believe you understand why. Stories about giving back and helping shouldn’t be exclusive, and key moments need to be accessible for anyone following the stories.
My hope is that sharing a few exclusive photos and small portions of some posts with you serves as a simple expression of gratitude.
With that in mind, again, thank you very much.
