Chapter 130: IT WILL BE FINE by Rebecca Flint

Emma texted me yesterday afternoon and said she wanted to talk about something. It was pretty big.

She wants to hold off on saying what’s going on until she can say it the way she wants it to come out, but you can assume it’s connected to Pay It Forward Society’s AWOL status. I pulled Paul into the discussion.

“I’ve always had my worries about the bloody Society. This is exactly the kind of thing I worried about. Bad enough that we get only a few days to change everything and pop off to some distant location… They treat us like we’re robots just waiting on new orders. We’re flesh and blood with lives…”

I pulled him in and calmed him down.

Paul looked at me. “We could make some adjustments, too. What do you think?”

“Let’s talk about it,” I said. “I’m not sure what you have in mind.”

After Emma left, he and I talked it out. So, more on that from me whenever Paul and I have a chance to confirm his idea will work.

Chapter 131: ARE YOU SURE? by Hannah Madison

Emma and I spent the better part of the afternoon and evening talking about her situation. I understand, but it’s hard for me to accept.

“I’m not trying to be proud or uppity,” she said. “I just don’t think living on charity is right for a situation where there’s no chance of changing things in the foreseeable future. Taking help to get over a hump is one thing. Counting on others for the long term is different.”

That’s her basic position, and I don’t think she’s necessarily wrong. I just think maybe she’s going too fast.

“What if it’s just this month?” I asked.

Her answer went deeper. It was complicated, and to be honest, telling it here would feel like betraying something she shared privately.

“I’ll get my words sorted out,” she said. “I’m not confused about what I want. Just unsure how to tell it all without dragging it out for pages and pages.”

So this is hard for me. I want to insist that I help her, but I do understand. She’s not being uppity. She’ll say she’s being self-sufficient, and that means something.

The rent situation came as a shock to everyone, but most of us can handle the change and go on. Given that Emma’s in school and working part-time, it hit her much harder.

For now, I’m trying to accept her decision and figure out how to be the best friend I can be for her.

Chapter 130: IT WILL BE FINE by Rebecca Flint. Good morning, Dr. Flint. I think it's safe to assume whatever Emma wants to talk about is the Society's apparent disappearnace from your lives. Good to pull in the Commander. Are you maybe a little frustrated with the entity, sir? We all get it, but... Hmm. You talked to Emma, and... We'll stay tuned for more. Thanks for your post, Doctor. Try and have a good day.

Chapter 131: ARE YOU SURE? by Hannah Madison. Hi Hannah. Emma is from a different world than you, I think. She doesn't have the resources the rest of you do, except maybe Liza. She has concerns, and doesn't want to be a charity case. You can understand that. One time help, sure, but a new situation will call for a new approach. Be her friend and let her concerns guide the discussion. Thanks for your post. Take care.
