THE THROES OF CHANGE by Cindi Curtis Allen

I have been kidnapped, but it’s okay. It was Jordan and her accomplice, Carter.

Michael is catching up on some work, so he left my fate in Jordan’s hands this morning. Jordan has launched herself—and by extension, the rest of us—on a mission to help some people I’ve never met.

According to Jordan, “some guy she once had a crush on” tried to call Michael, who didn’t answer, then called her to introduce her to a girl named Emma and her fiancé, Noah.

Not surprisingly, Jordan is planning on making a new friend. Also not surprisingly, I had a panic attack.

“Wait,” I said to Jordan when I caught my breath. “You want me to look at a house Emma found on Zillow and help you decide if it’s worth them looking at?”

“Right?” Jordan seemed to think it was not at all unusual for total strangers to ask her to evaluate a possible home.

They picked me up, and we stopped at the Waffle House in Lakeland on the way out to Eads. I still wasn’t sure what I was doing by the time the food was served.

“I’ve never even met them,” I said. “How should I know?”

“We’re not picking the house for them,” Carter explained. “Just trying to see if it’s worth looking at. Like, does the plumbing work? Does it have broken windows?”

Jordan helped calm me down further. “They have limited time. If we can eliminate a few houses or apartments, then hopefully they can use the time they have to find something they want.”

I’m willing to help. I’m just not very comfortable. But being comfortable is optional, right?

Hebrews 13:1–2: Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. (NIV)
