Chapter 148: WRAPPING UP by Noah Vale
It’s been a busy three days, but we did everything we came to do, and then some. Paul and Rebecca are meeting with the church to finalize the wedding right now while I finish my employment paperwork for an ambulance service.
I officially start the Monday after the wedding. My first shift is from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday. The office is around ten miles from the house we leased yesterday. It’s right down US-64 in an area called Wolfchase. It’s just behind the Walmart where Emma and I will probably do a lot of shopping.
There’s a Kroger a little closer, too.
I’m going to keep this short. The wedding is this coming Saturday, and there’s still a lot to do.
We fly back to New York this afternoon. I’m going to turn around pretty quickly and drive my car back down. I’ll use Emma’s pickup to see if I can find a used table and chairs for the kitchen.
We’re going to start with an air mattress to sleep on and boxes for our clothes. Getting a bedroom set will be our top priority next week after the wedding, but Emma said we can think of it as indoor camping for a few nights.
The thing is, renting this place for the two of us is less than what one of us would have paid in rent in Brooklyn. So, financially, we’ll be better off, once we get settled.
We know we’re not getting married just to save money. We had already talked about marriage as the future we wanted, just a few years from now. The changes at Pay It Forward Society accelerated our plan.
We don’t think we’re being idealistic or naive. We know marriage takes work and is a lifetime commitment. Given where we both came from, we know what that means, and we’re ready.
Your support and encouragement mean a lot to us. Thank you. See you next time.
