GOOD MORNING by Ailana Geven Keller
Today feels like the real beginning of me and Noah’s new life. We’re sitting here on the porch between passing thunderstorms and rain. They said it was gonna be scattered thunderstorms today, and so far, they were right.
Well, I thought I’d talk a little about all the gifts our friends gave us for the wedding. Between what Noah and me had from our apartments and all the gifts, we’re in good shape.
I already told you about Tom, Hannah, and Merritt going in together to cover our rent and utilities, so we don’t have any payments until the beginning of August.
I guess it’s obvious what all Shay did for us! The whole wedding trip, plus my dress, Noah’s suit, and everything else. She gave us a nice cash gift, too.
Paul and Rebecca gave us some Amazon gift cards, plus they handled all the arrangements for the wedding. I thought everything was beautiful.
Addison and Jacob got us a set of dishes. They are Corelle brand, meaning they are hard to break and durable, and Country Cottage style, which we both like. They got us a six place set with everything.
Liza, Caleb, and Chloe got us a set of stainless-steel flatware. What me and Noah had was just mixed and matched, so this is really nice!
Now, you remember Kent rode down with Noah. They had a lot of time to talk about things, and in the end, Kent and Izzy got us a lawnmower. It’s a store brand from Home Depot. It’s a walk-behind with bagger and mulching option, plus it’s self propelled.
The property is a little more than two acres. We’re not going to try and mow all that!
We’re going to make a lawn out of everything about 30 feet from the house on all sides. So, that will be around 120 X 120 feet area (not exact!), which is bigger than a lot of subdivision yards. We’ll mow a path to the barn, of course.
We’re gonna just let the rest grow up. You might call it weeds. We’re gonna call it wildflowers and native meadow grasses!
That’s all for today.

FACEPALM by Cindi Curtis Allen
I have a story, Michael’s observation, and my afterthoughts. A lot to process here!
One of the coders from a different team in the Colorado office called.
Michael and I were in the kitchen. I was on my laptop, looking at the code and talking on speakerphone.
There was a lot of lead-up to his question.
“Can you fix it?”
“It’s a server-side problem,” I said. “We wrote the client.”
“So the server code needs to be fixed…” It was a statement, but he left it hanging, then he added, “Can you do anything?”
“I don’t have access to the server code. Just the data. They didn’t give us access to the code.”
This was a question, not a statement. “So you can’t do anything?”
I looked at Michael, who was smiling and shaking his head. I physically facepalmed.
“No, I can’t change anything I don’t have access to. That’s how it works. You have to have access to something if you are going to make changes.”
He conceded, and the call ended.
Michael looked at me. “How do you feel?”
“Honestly, confused,” I said. “Why?”
He laughed.“Well, my granddad would say you just told that guy how the cow ate the cabbage! Very assertive. You’re not anxious?”
I replayed the conversation. I wasn’t anxious. I was just correct.
But, of course…
I rolled my eyes at Michael. “Okay, I wasn’t until you asked!”
We both laughed and came outside for some fresh air.
MORE CONNECTIONS
This chapter looks in on Hayes and Roman as they begin their honeymoon and their life together as husband and wife.
BORA BORA HONEYMOON
Back in Bora Bora, where Roman had proposed to Hayes, the newlyweds began their first day of married life with a trip to the beach.
“We made it,” Roman said as they leaned back in the recliners.
“Yes.” Hayes let her reply trail off into silence as waves rolled onto the beach. “Yes, we did.”
“Everything,” Roman replied, “gets better from here on.”
Hayes smiled. “I like how that sounds.”
