GOOD MORNING by Ailana Geven Keller
Well, Noah’s working 10 to 10 today, so I’m at home alone. I don’t want time to slip by, so I’m looking into work and school.
I’m pretty happy with the outcome so far. I called Southwest Tennessee Community College. They’ve got a program in social work, and it’s not too far from here. They have open admission, so there shouldn’t be a whole lot of fuss about whether I can get in.
I got through to an admissions counselor, and we talked a long time.
They offer a two-year Associate of Science in Social Work. It’s a Tennessee Transfer Pathway, so when I finish, I can transfer to a four-year university and keep going toward my bachelor’s degree in social work.
Now, here’s a good thing. She said most of my credits from Kingsborough ought to transfer, but they have to get my official transcript and evaluate everything first. She also said some of my AP exam scores from 10th and 11th grade might count, too.
They’ve got a Summer II term that runs July 6 through August 6. She said if I get my application, transcripts, and everything else turned in right away, she thinks I could probably start with a class or two then.
All in all, depending on how many credits they accept and how much I can handle, she thinks I might get my AS degree by next May. If not, then next August.
Either way, I could transfer and keep going toward my BSW in the fall of 2027.
“Is there anything else I can help you with?” she asked.
“Well, I need to find a job, too.”
Now, here’s another really good thing. She told me to look online because the college is always hiring people.
I’m doing that now. I’ll tell you if I find anything!
