COMPANY COMING OVER by Emma Vale
You might recall that when Jordan and Carter were helping me and Noah find this place, Jordan had the idea that we’d have a cookout here when her friends Roman and Hayes got back from their honeymoon.
Now, Noah has to work today—just 7:00 to 4:00—so he said he’d get up tomorrow morning and mow the lawn around the house for the cookout. After work, Carter and Michael are helping Noah pick up a grill Jordan’s dad made out of an old 55-gallon drum, so Noah took the truck today.
Well, I’ve got myself mostly set up to start school for the July term, and I got some job applications put in. So instead of sitting around looking at the walls, I decided I’d just cut the yard myself. It’s supposed to get up to nearly 90°F today, but I’ll go slow and stay hydrated.
Like I said, we’re not trying to make a lawn out of the whole property—it’s a little bigger than two acres. We’re going to keep a mowed area around the house about the size of a regular suburban yard and let the rest grow up into what I’m calling wildflowers and native grasses. Most people would call that weeds!
Well, some of you say you like it when I share a scripture, so I’ll tell you what I thought about today. It was the Bible Gateway Verse of the Day:
Leviticus 19:18 (New International Version)
“Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.”
I spent some time thinking about what “love your neighbor as yourself” means. The New Testament says that’s one of the two most important commandments!
That’s all for now. Thanks for reading my story!
See you next time!

IT’S A GRILL by Carter Ellis
You probably already know that Jordan planned a cookout at Emma and Noah Vale’s house out in Eads. She said that all they had to do was provide the location—the rest of us would supply everything else.
Noah and I have been in contact on this. Turns out, he had to do a little more than throw out the welcome mat.
Jordan’s dad built a grill for the backyard when she was a freshman in high school. It served many youth group gatherings over the years, but it’s been retired and under a tarp since she graduated.
The deal was that if we moved it, Noah and Emma could have it. Not as easy as it sounds!
The legs are made of welded angle iron, and he lined the inside bottom with old intake manifolds from big V-8 engines to reinforce it.
I picked up Michael, and we met Noah at the McDonald’s near Wolfchase. From there, we went to Jordan’s house where the fun—or something—began.
In the end, our will, strength, and ratchet straps prevailed. The grill has been delivered and unloaded. We’ll manhandle it to the back, but we thought we’d pose for a victory picture first.
Tomorrow, the burgers, dogs, and chicken will thank us.
Be your best you!
