Chapter 3.1.18: I’M IN CHARGE by Addison Magee

Tom Jenkins hired me to be the theatrical director of Crossroads of History Theater. That part sort of makes sense. I’m twenty-four and have been in theater since I was six.

Then, against all reason and good sense, after a week or so, Tom basically said, “While you’re at it, you can manage Crossroads Apartments, too.”

I guess it’s been good—I’ve learned a lot about business and picked up skills that have turned out to be valuable.

Until a few months ago, it wasn’t much work. When Shay moved in, things got busier. With Crossroads Phase II coming online, even more so. Still, I think I’m handling it.

Chloe and Caleb Hastings have paid their deposits and signed leases beginning July 15. That will give them about two weeks to move before their Union Square lease runs out.

Today, someone Chloe knew from college back in Iowa walked in—Aidan Red Elk. He said she had recommended Crossroads and wanted to know whether a micro was available.

I showed him one, and he took it. Done and done!

With Noah and Emma gone and Kent and Izzy almost certain to move, I thought a rundown of the Phase I situation would be useful. I’ve added a floor plan image.

Assuming Kent and Izzy do move, we have in the three two-bedroom units Shay and Olivia in one, Hannah in one, and me by my poor lonesome!

In the micros on the right, at the top we’ll have Merritt, bathroom, Caleb. Going down the side, it will be Aidan, bathroom, Jacob; Chloe, bathroom, Liza; Conner, bathroom, Devon.

In Phase II, Shay’s security team occupies five of the eight second-floor micros: Eric, Ray, Ethan, Cole, and Logan.

Phase II’s third floor has three two-bedroom apartments, and Melissa Gaines is slated to move into one of them.

The fourth floor won’t fall under my management. Habitat Housing will manage the eight new Stop-Gap units there.

So, that’s it from the woman in charge! And if that doesn’t scare you, then…

Have a great day!
