GOOD MORNING by Ailana Geven Keller
Good morning, everyone. Happy Fourth of July to those celebrating.
Jason and I are still spinning over Clay and Sasha’s plan—their decision to buy a house across the street and…lots of business details that I won’t repeat.
Jason and I will take over their two-bedroom, two-bath condo on the second floor. We really like the idea, but there are a few details to work out.
But not today. Today is a workday for us. We are going to collect a bunch of images in the spirit of “the cumulative effect” so Jason and Geoni will have plenty of stock photos in their catalogs. I’m not going to try to show you everything, but… I think there will be a few surprises along the way.
Right now, it’s time to get going, so stick around and watch for more, later! In the meantime, I hope you have a great Saturday morning. See you soon!

ON MARBLE FLOORS by Ailana Geven Keller
We got permission to shoot in an office building this morning. Because it was the Fourth, the building was mostly empty, which made the whole thing easier than it probably should have been.
We tried to mix up the looks, and I’m going to share a few of them. We did a few shots on the marble floors because we wanted to tap into the elegant vibe. We did some business attire shots, but I don’t think there’s anything to talk about from them.
The more elegant outfits seemed to come alive on the black-and-white marble. For the catalogs, being different might mean making a sale. So I thought elegant evening outfits in a business setting would stand out.
Sasha brought the vibe hard! Just saying… How can you go wrong with a long, black dress and matching heels?
I went more for a cocktail-length look. The colors don’t jump out against the background, but Geoni postulated that would make viewers look closer. And that’s an interesting idea. Photography can work well in a lot of different ways. Over the months, I think Geoni has proven time and again that she has an instinct for these things.
We also did some pictures that felt out of place among the marble floors and dark wood. One thing I like to do in photography is to juxtapose outfits and settings. We did that, too. As I said, being different among the thousands of options on a stock photo site might mean being noticed. And more importantly, bought.
We managed wardrobe by parking the RV outside and taking turns changing. And, yes, there were nail polish changes, too. We shot at a fairly slow pace, so there was time to breathe. Jason shot most of the images this morning, but Geoni and I grabbed the camera a few times as well.
I really thought bringing color into the sober business setting created a good vibe. Geoni’s elevator shot might be the chef’s-kiss example.
From here, we’re hitting the streets for a lot of different locations and looks. And those surprises I talked about this morning? Stick around for those!
See you soon
OUT AND ABOUT by Ailana Geven Keller
This afternoon, we went for a different vibe altogether. We set out for more of a streetwear, touristy, and gritty vibe.
We did some work downtown, by the river, and in Lafayette Park.
We found a railroad line near the river in one spot and took a few pictures there. I think there’s something to be said for the industrial textures of rust, faded signs, and old brick.
Of course, we had to get the famous Gateway Arch in some shots! If you want to create a St. Louis feeling, you have to have the Gateway Arch, right? We picked one of Josh and Geoni’s shots to share with you.
Somehow, Geoni ended up giving direction on a lot of the shots. She had ideas she wanted to try, and we went along with her. I think she had fun, and I think Josh had fun watching her try new things.
We managed to get Jason in front of the lens for a change. I think he nailed it! Geoni directed him and I took the pictures. It was a nice switch-up from normal.
While at Lafayette Park, Geoni directed Sasha into a shot with Jason that we wanted to share, too. It took only a few seconds before they relaxed into the pose and acted like professionals doing a job.
Kel asked how I felt about posing with Micah and seeing Sasha pose with Jason—of course there were other combinations, too, including husbands and wives together. told him it was just pictures we’d try to sell. We trust our spouses, and we’re standing right here holding their next outfit.
“So it’s just business,” Kel replied.
Another iconic feature of St. Louis is the river. We made our way to a grassy area and took a lot of pictures there. We all did at least two outfits with Ol’ Man River in the background.
There were a lot of solo shots of the guys, too. Most notably, Clay insisted on a shot at Busch Stadium. Go Cardinals!
GOOD NIGHT by Ailana Geven Keller
It’s been a long day, and everyone is tired. We grabbed fast food for dinner and called it a day.
Pulling off today took a lot of time and effort. As far as the stock photo plan goes, it was good for the catalogs. I know that part. We got a lot of different looks, different settings, different moods, and I think some of them will be useful in the long run. That matters because the whole point is to build something one image at a time.
But I’ll be honest—I don’t know how interesting this is for Journal readers. Behind the scenes, it felt busy and creative and kind of exciting. On the page, though, I worry it might just look like…more pictures. Maybe pretty pictures, but still pictures.
So I’d really love to hear what you think. Do you like seeing the production side of things? Do the modeling days add to the story, or do they feel like a pause from it? Comments help me know what’s working—and they help the Journal grow.
Tomorrow, we’ll go to church here in St. Louis, have lunch, and then point the wheels east again. The Route 66 odyssey is not over yet. We still have miles to drive, pictures to take, and probably a few surprises waiting somewhere down the road.
We’ll stop in Pontiac, Illinois, tomorrow night, but we’ll grab some stories, notes, and images along the way. For now, I’m calling it a night.
May you find beauty in the work, joy in the people beside you, and courage to keep building something good one small, ordinary, faithful piece at a time.
Good night.
