GOOD MORNING by Ailana Geven Keller
And just like that—we’re going to the studio today!
Not a lot to add to that. It’s going to be a fairly big workday, but I’ll try to check in and share some pictures.
The shoot is supposed to focus on “Easy Living Styles.” It covers a pretty wide range of things, so it should be interesting.
Jason and Geoni will be doing most of the photography work, but I’ll grab a camera when I have time. I’ll also be doing that art director, creative director thing.
I probably need to get going, so I should wrap up.
Duly noted, I am currently wrapped up. Or robed up, to be more precise. Never mind… moving on…
I’ll bring this chapter to a close now. I’ll be back later from the studio.
In the meantime, I hope you have a great Wednesday morning. See you soon!

EASY LIVING STYLE by Ailana Geven Keller
Today’s shoot came with a shot list titled “Easy Living Style” and a bunch of outfits that are supposed to represent… you know… easy living.
Jason and Geoni did the bulk of the shooting. Kara Sanchez was in for the day to do hair and makeup—we’ve worked with her a few times before.
We started off fast with the regular AGI group. We drew straws for who got the “clown in the rain” outfit. Let’s say I won. I also got green contacts and a stick-on navel stud.
Moving on…
I also mentioned that Min and Vanessa wanted to bring their office manager, Isabela Martinez.
Min showed up first. “Tight schedule… I brought Izzy… I think she knows how to model, so… you know.”
I smiled, and Min went on. “I’m taking her out in the Mobile Clinic today.”
“To do what?” I looked at Izzy.
“She says she’s the boss today and told me not to ask questions.”
“It will be fun,” Min replied.
Kirina also popped over from Sea Glass for a couple of outfits.
Once they were done, Vanessa and Isabela showed up. Isabela was on the set before Izzy left. Jason was shooting.
“That’s it…” Jason said as he snapped one.
“Relax your left hand,” Izzy said as she looked on. “Drop your chin a bit.”
Jason snapped another. I looked at Izzy and smiled—she smiled back and shrugged. For a moment, I was back at one of our sessions in Chicago, when we stood beside the art director like scared kids, watching the other models and trying to catch on.
Vanessa stepped onto the set as Izzy and Min left. Vanessa, in my opinion, has a natural calm that makes her seem completely at home in front of the lens. She just relaxes and lets each look flow naturally.
It was a big shoot, to be honest. But we’ve got the flow figured out, and we kept the shutters clicking all day.
So I’ll wrap up and get on with prepping the images and sending them to Naomi. I’ll check in later.
OFF DUTY by Camila Lopez
I have today off, which means I’m sitting at my little kitchen table in sweatpants with a glass of lemonade and nowhere I have to be.
I work Thursday through Saturday this week, then I’m off again Sunday. I’ve enjoyed the job so far. Most of it is not dramatic. It’s checking in with businesses, answering calls, helping visitors, talking with residents, writing reports, and learning which problems are normal for the island and which ones deserve a closer look.
I like that part. Good police work is not only what happens after something goes wrong. A lot of it is being present before it does.
Yesterday was less routine.
I was inside Paradise Beachwear checking in with the owner and a few teenagers who work there. A man saw me, grabbed a bikini, and ran. He was about six-foot-one and close to three hundred pounds, so I was surprised by both the decision and the speed.
I called it in and followed department use-of-force policy. He made it about seventy-five yards before he collapsed. At that point, the stolen bikini stopped being the priority.
I requested medical assistance, approached when I believed it was safe, and checked his pulse and breathing. He had both. I kept the area clear and stayed with him until the ambulance arrived. He was transported, and I later learned he was going to be okay.
The rest came afterward. Hospital staff found five more swimsuits stuffed into his pockets and under his shirt. Officers located his car and found dozens more inside. The best guess is that he planned to sell them out of the trunk somewhere.
I’m glad he survived. A bad decision should not have ended his life.
Not every shift includes a seventy-five-yard chase or a mobile swimsuit inventory. Most days are ordinary, and I’m fine with that. I feel like I’m doing useful work, learning the community, and building relationships with people who now recognize me before I introduce myself.
For today, the uniform is hanging up, the lemonade is cold, and I plan to enjoy the quiet while I have it.
GOOD NIGHT by Ailana Geven Keller
I kept the raincoat. Not needed, but whatever! I also kept one of the other tops. The shorts are mine.
Days like today take a lot of work to pull off. Sharing them is a big project, too. I believe it’s worth it to do, though. I think most of you like to see what sort of things we’re up to.
Tomorrow, for me, will be mostly about the writing side of my life. I had another conversation about my Everglades articles from last year, and that reminded me of a couple of things.
The nonfiction writing I do—not the fiction, which I love—has a function beyond simply entertaining people. It adds understanding and perspective. In the Patreon comments, one reader mentioned that my discussion of fragile soil ecosystems during the Route 66 road trip introduced him to a completely new concept.
I’m kinda motivated by comments like that. They make me feel like I’m doing something with a little meaning to it.
So, it was a long day, but it was what we expected. At first glance, Naomi said everything looked great.
“You guys are second to none. Great work, and I really like the diversity among your models.”
She said she was happy to see Izzy again. She also asked about Kaylee. I explained that Kaylee was tied up with First Call, and she understood.
“Maybe,” Naomi said, “you can figure out a way for her to get one day off each week for modeling. That’s kinda where I’m leaning with AGI.”
Note taken. I’ll be talking to Kaylee.
It’s been a big day. I’ll close the chapter out now.
May you find a path to success—not only for yourself, but also for others who follow it with you.
Good night.
Be your best you!
