GOOD MORNING by Ailana Geven Keller

Ailana’s Journal | GOOD MORNING by Ailana Geven Keller—As you know if you’ve been around here very long, things come up and happen fast! Last time you saw me, I was on the beach with all the other ladies from the condo. Next time you see me, I’ll be aboard a jet to Greece.

I received an invitation to a birthday party in Greece. Someone I know from Instagram, Amaila Tinsley ( @amaila.tinsley ), has invited several people—including me—to help her celebrate her 21st birthday.

So, I’m going to move fast today!

Since taking Emily out of the country would require a lot of legal hoopla, I’m making the trip alone. But on Sunday, Jason and Emily will meet me in New York City, where I’ll have a chance to meet with Meredith Sinclair about the Cloudfall novel we’re working on.

That should be pretty fun, and hopefully, we’ll get back on track with the novel. Chapter 1 was almost done when things stalled out.

For the next couple of days on Patreon, I’ll post Ailana’s Journal in two parts. Part 1 will be my little adventure. Part 2 will be something else.

So, what shall we say? I should finish my coffee and get going.

See you soon.

BOUND FOR Italy by Ailana Geven Keller

I could tell you exactly where I’m flying over right now, but that would be a guess. I can tell you that I will be arriving in Italy later tonight and that I’m a little awed.

This will be my first visit to Italy, and I keep having that strange feeling where a place is already bigger than my imagination can hold. I know I’ll land there with luggage, a phone, and probably the wrong shoes, but part of me feels like I’m flying toward a whole civilization.

Italy is one of those places where history doesn’t feel like something trapped in a book. It feels like it might still be standing around the next corner. Roads. Ruins. Cathedrals. Artists. Empires. Stories people kept telling until they became part of how the whole world understands beauty, power, faith, and ambition.

And Julius Caesar. I keep thinking about him crossing the Rubicon, knowing there was no polite way to walk that decision back once he made it. I’m just trying to carry one suitcase through customs without embarrassing myself, so yes, slightly different scale of personal challenge.

Still, I’m excited. A little awed. Maybe that’s the right way to arrive.

It will be night there, of course, but it will still be my normal goodnight time slot. I’m going to take a little while before settling in at the hotel to grab some pictures for Jason and Geoni’s stock photo catalog.

I’ll check in when I get there.

GOOD NIGHT by Ailana Geven Keller

Good evening from Rome, friends. I made it. I am here, I am tired in about four different time zones, and I am still taking pictures for Jason and Geoni’s stock photo catalog because apparently ancient Rome does not care that my body thinks it is bedtime.

That seems fair. If Rome can stay standing this long, I can probably stay awake a little longer.

I’m here for the birthday party of Amaila Tinsley, @amaila.tinsley, who is turning 21. I’m also meeting Andy Cole, @andy_cole_ai, while I’m here. It has been a very long time since we’ve seen each other, so this trip already feels like travel, reunion, work, and adventure all trying to sit in the same little suitcase.

Tonight, I saw the Colosseum.

Its real name is the Flavian Amphitheatre, and construction began under Emperor Vespasian around AD 70. It was finished under his son Titus in AD 80, then modified again under Domitian. It held tens of thousands of spectators and was used for gladiatorial contests, staged hunts, public spectacles, and all the strange, brutal theater Rome built around power.

Standing near it at night is hard to explain. Part of me sees stone arches and lights and tourists with cameras. Another part of me knows people have been looking at this place for almost two thousand years and trying to understand what it says about greatness, cruelty, entertainment, empire, and memory.

Tomorrow will be busy. The party is the main thing. After that, I have to get ready to travel to New York City on Sunday, where Jason and Emily will meet me.

For tonight, though, I’m going to let Rome be Rome.

May you someday stand somewhere old enough to make your worries feel temporary and your life feel wide open again.

Good night.

Be your best you!
