GOOD MORNING by Ailana Geven Keller

Here I am back in bed, and the day has already started. I can justify this, though.

I went and made coffee, letting Jason use the bathroom first. Shower’s forthcoming, but we stopped for the good-morning chapter and picture first.

Today will be a fairly normal Sunday for me. I’m hoping to take it easy, have a relaxing lunch, and do some work after church.

I’ll check in later—as I do—and I’m sure others will have chapters to share. For now, I need to get up and get going.

Thanks for all your support and kind words. See you soon.

WALK AND TALK by Ailana Geven Keller

After church, we decided to walk to Sea Ranch Restaurant—Sasha and Clay drove the cars over and are getting tables.

If you’ve been around AGI Creative very long, you know I can’t walk anywhere without Geoni or Jason calling for a picture.

“No… seriously…” Geoni said. “You need something for your midday chapter.”

She’s not wrong, is she? So here you go. Me trying to just walk to lunch but being directed into some pseudo-studio pose. At least I snuck in a little smile.

Dad asked after church if I was planning on going to the beach today. I told him probably not, and he seemed relieved.

“Evelyn and I are going to… take chairs and sit on the beach. I’d feel like you were spying on me if you showed up.”

Emily overheard him. “Pops, that sounds like something I would say!”

He looked at her and shook his head. “I thought you were asking for people to supervise you a few weeks ago.”

“True…” Emily nodded. “But still…”

Now, if you don’t know, “but still…” means whatever you said doesn’t actually count. It means Emily was right, even if the rebuttal was still true.

To be honest, she sort of is!

Recommended: I’m hoping for an update from the beach later. I’m sure you are, too, so watch for that.

PROGRESS OF A SORT by Evelyn Chandler

Let me start off this chapter saying that I am not expecting an instant romantic relationship to end the ages. There is a Korean proverb that I’ll share to get things started here.

늦바람이 용마름을 벗긴다Neutbarami yongmareumeul beotgindaA late wind strips the thatch off the roof.

It makes more sense if you know that in Korean culture, the word 바람 (baram / wind) is also the slang word for romance,

I’d like to go on record saying that I’m not planning on having the thatch stripped off my roof. And I’m confident Allen isn’t, either.

But I am equally confident that I like his company. He’s thoughtful and intelligent.

He has a knowledge of ecology that is grounded and practical. He says it comes from growing up around farming and actually caring about the environment. I could go on…

He assumes my interest in him is because I don’t know anyone else in our age range. That’s part of it, I suppose. He also thinks it’s just some passing phase. He didn’t say those words exactly, but I got that sense. I tried to show that I’d like to see where things go over time. Fail…

“Meet my mother?” He shook his head. “That would be a disaster.”

“Why?”

“She’s the most critical, negative person I’ve ever known. I’d be embarrassed for you to see that. She sees a bed of blooming flowers and criticizes the buds that haven’t opened yet. And she’d probably make some kind of racist remark or ask some racist questions on top of all her negativity.”

He went on, and I started feeling sad that he has to live that way. Suffice it to say, I won’t ask about Grammy again, and I’ll strike meeting her from the list of possible future dates.

And yes… I’m calling our time together dates. He’ll catch on eventually.

COOKING WITH SASHA by Jasmine Banks

Micah and me are at Sasha and Clay’s house. We’re cooking up something—not exactly a meal. A plan.

Emily’s final hearing is on the 11th. No one can figure out any reason the judge will change his mind. Almost surely, Emily will remain permanently in the care of Ailana and Jason.

Micah has a theory about Emily’s mother. “So, Josh’s PIs say Melinda was clocked leaving the apartments and getting into a car. They said she looked unhappy, but she got in anyway. That had to be someone connected to the deal that went bust. I’d say whoever she was working with wasn’t happy. The judge said the buyer and broker both got arrested, so this guy would’ve been whoever the broker worked for. I’d say Melinda is cooked.”

That’s another kind of cooked, by the way. Micah thinks she probably ended up getting what she had been setting up for Emily.

Since no one can imagine the judge changing his mind, Sasha and I are planning a celebration for Emily for next Saturday. We’ve got Brooks helping, too. She’s contacting the other kids, including a few I’ve not met from Youth Group.

She also said I should invite Camila Lopez, the officer who brought Emily to the condos.

“Emily told us at the sleepover that she felt bad for kinda lying to Officer Lopez. Not lying, but just not telling all the truth. So, Emily’s avoided her, but she’s really nice, and I know she’d understand. Emily would be happy for a chance to clear the air.”

I’m trusting Brooks on that. Brooks gave me her work number.

Allen told me that he invited Evelyn and Nick to come—he thinks Nick would like to meet some new people his age.

I invited Sofia, since she knows Emily from the sleepover. I told her to bring Ryan, so I can have a chance to meet him. I was thinking maybe Micah and me could go out with them sometime.

As of now, Ailana, Jason, and Emily don’t know about this. Just in case the utterly unexpected happens and the judge changes his mind, Sasha and me thought we’d wait until after the hearing to tell them.

But, we already ordered decorations from Amazon and bought some of the food for the party.

That’s how sure we are.

GOOD NIGHT by Ailana Geven Keller

Jason and I want to get back into the habit of more goodnight walks, so we started over here at Beach Access 7. I think we’re going to resist the sand tonight.

Kel and Emily came with us. They left their shoes here and, hand in hand, jogged down to the edge of the water. I won’t be surprised if they come back wet, too.

It will be fine if they do.

They start classes tomorrow. You might recall that they are going to UT High School, which is an online program operated by The University of Texas at Austin. It’s virtual, so when we get another content creation trip going, they can go with us.

Emily’s final hearing is Tuesday. We’ve all agreed that the chance the judge changes the ruling is slim to none, so among the AGI Creative group, we’ve already begun tossing around ideas for another content trip.

I have a sliver of an idea on the table. Josh and Jason are thinking about it, so I’ll hold off sharing what it is for now.

So, the day comes to an end with my sister and her boyfriend gathering sand on their feet and clothes to take back to the condos, my husband taking pictures of me to go with my rambling thoughts, and you sharing this moment with me.

I’ll just say that this feels very right.

Good night.

Be your best you!

WALK AND TALK by Ailana Geven Keller. Hi Ailana! Thank Geoni and Jason for me. Love this dress! And the shoes. You are just a natural for the camera. So, they take advantage of what they are given. Thanks! //Emily, you have to let them get used to being looked at ... without being looked at. Because, you know, oldsters are cute when they're being romantic, but you can't let on that you've noticed. But you can, playfully, tease them both later. I'm happy for them. And when was the last time Allen went to the beach?! In beach clothes!
