Is there a certain standards or formula to describe the trio we very often sees in stories? The two males and one female combo, I realized that a lot of stories have this kind of combinations.

That's a good question, I'm not sure myself, but I'll add it to my list of such topics, right next to is there a standard to a main character's best friend and younger sister always ending up together. It was cute with Han and Leia, but it became cliche fast.
