At the end of this episode you said you were going to have a snack and watch the next episode but we both know you binged the last episode too. I know how episode 9 ends and you need to know how that situation is resolved. I don't think Hiromatsu knew what Toranaga's plan was until he was about to commit seppuku. You get the sense Hiromatsu figured out Toranaga's plan when he told Buntaro he can't commit seppuku and to follow Toranaga even if it seems like he has given up, which is this very situation. Hiromatsu, I believed, also realized by him commiting seppuku it would save countless many of Toranaga's generals from commiting seppuku. Toranaga also alludes to this in the next scene when he tells Mariko that Hiromatsu performed his duty well, referring to Hiromatsu's sacrifice.
