Kay I got waaaay too toasted watching this long episode to say smart things now at the end. But Imma try... Thanks for letting us be part of this Mary. I just found The Wire about 3-4 years ago and I rewatched it once before you started it so this was my third watch. For a show that took me 20 years to get around to watching, it's up there with GoT and BoB as my favorite shows of all time. Kay so you mentioned Dookie/Bubbles in your outro. I don't know if this was ever confirmed by David Simon or whoever but there's a theory out there, that they did it on purpose so everything's a cycle and we basically came full circle with the same story but new characters. Dukie is the new Bubbles, Michael is the new Omar, Sydnor is the new McNutty, etc. I know you have a ton of new shows you're starting, but one of these years maybe watch Generation Kill. It's about some Marines that go into Iraq at the beginning of the war and it's made by the same people that did The Wire. It's not everybody's cup of tea, but since you liked BoB and The Pacific you might like it. Just... if you do watch it someday, please don't pre-judge a certain character based on the actor that plays him 😆 So. Um. Advice from the fellow peoples... what the heck am I s'posed to do on Monday evenings now??? ❤️

Loved watching this show with you such a blast. If you or anyone else out there is itching for more Wire-esque shows I would recommend any of David Simon's/Ed Burns' other shows Generation Kill, Treme, The Corner, The Deuce. But I highly recommend "We Own This City" a brief 7 episode mini series dealing yet again with corruption in Baltimore. Unlike the Wire which was fictional events based on real people, We Own This City is an almost unbelievable true story based on very recent and very tragic events. I've been watching since Season 1 and loved every minute of it, thank you for all the content you give us Mary!

Watched this show along with you and really really enjoyed it. I probably would have never watched it otherwise but I'm glad I did.

Season 5 was more enjoyable in the watch along for me, I couldn't stand that liar Scot.

If Mary watches episode 1 Season 1 again then she will end up watching the entire series again. You start to make connections the second time that you didn't catch the first time. Watching the second time was even more enjoyable than the first for me. I've seen The Wire quite a few times.

Thanks so much for having reacted to my favorite television series of all times Mary!! I enjoyed watching you discover this SO SO much! And I'm overjoyed you are now doing "The Expanse" as well. Couple remarks on this episode: Regarding bail for criminal charges in the US - The money you post is returned to you if the defendant continues to appear for all court dates and also surrenders for his/her sentence at the end. You don't lose the money unless the defendant flees or fails to appear for court appearances. If a bail bondsman posts the bail (or a portion) he or she keeps only a portion of the matching money you post (typically 10-20%) as a fee for risking his/her own money to get you out of jail. Regarding US homes' front doors not opening into the living room - there are plenty of smaller homes in the US (particularly built in the 50s, 60s, and 70s) where the front door opens directly into the living room rather than an alcove or hallway. Many cheaper prefabricated homes also have a front door that opens into the living room. Having done many LEGAL court authorized wiretaps during a thirty-two year law enforcement career (all drug conspiracy cases), I can also tell you this is the most accurate show as far as trying to do a wiretap case while working for an underfunded, understaffed, underequipped police department. It is spot-on accurate.... and exactly why I left my department after ten years to go to a federal agency that could adequately support and fund wiretap cases. McNulty and Freamon remain my heroes despite their poor judgement at the end. Thanks so much for doing this Mary!

Was wonderful revisiting it with you. Your empathy and intelligence always stand out in your reactions. And you picked up on a lot that many don't at first. As others have commented, it is absolutely a work that rewards repeat viewings. If you do end up going back at some point, you'll see the resonating themes and parallels all the way through in unexpected places, you'll notice characters that end up becoming major players showing up earlier than you think, etc, etc. It's funny that even with all the gangsters and politicians and businessmen, Scott from the Sun papers is still the scummiest guy there is, yuck. And all the love in the world to Bubbles, may his clean and happy life continue indefinitely.
