"What door" such a great jaw-dropping moment. If you rewatch that scene, the door is actually not there when they first enter the room, then the camera pans over to Bernard and Theresa notices the door in the background, and only when the camera comes around again, is the door actually there. Such attention to detail. Makes you wonder what else wasn't as it first appeared when we were watching through Bernard's eyes... Hopkins is also so great in this role, as usual, he manages to make Ford appear mostly harmless and quietly charming but then, without really doing much, he can just turn it around and appear super threatening and just exude this kind of quiet confidence that HE's in charge. Also, trompe-l'œil is mostly translated into English as... trompe-l'œil. Though only in the sense of how it's used in the arts, otherwise it might just be an optical illusion. But in the arts, it's a specific term that's also used in English. I'll just paste the first sentences of the wikipedia article on it: "Trompe-l'œil (French for 'deceive the eye'; /trɒmpˈlɔɪ/ tromp-LOY; French: [tʁɔ̃p lœj]) is an artistic term for the highly realistic optical illusion of three-dimensional space and objects on a two-dimensional surface. Trompe-l'œil, which is most often associated with painting, tricks the viewer into perceiving painted objects or spaces as real." So you can see why this episode is named that.

Excellent as Anthony Hopkins' performance is, I was stunned by Sidse's acting too. You can see that she knows she is going to die quite early on but there's no hysteria. Just sadness and fear as she desperately looks for a way out. A chilling performance.
