It's been such a fun journey to watch Westworld again alongside your reactions, it has brought me back to when I first watched it with my mind being blown. The show gives you so much to think about. Time to watch along with episode 10 😁

It's true, Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam clearly depicts a human brain, not just the external shape but the positions of design elements with in the cloak depict internal structures within the brain that anatomists of his time would recognize. What this depiction represented to the Artist is left open to interpretation. Does it mean that God is created by the brain or vice-versa? Does it mean that God is not bestowing life upon Adam (who has motor function and is reaching up to meet God's hand) but instead is bestowing intellect upon him? Upon its premier the show was quite popular, but its main flaw was that Nolan likes to build puzzle-box mysteries into his projects, but this was made without taking into account the crowd-sourcing capabilities of the internet, specifically Reddit. That Delores is experiencing multiple timelines, specifically two that are 30 years apart -- one in which William is a young man on his first visit, and the other in which William is an old man addicted to the park's narratives and plays out his power fantasies there, while his wealth and power on the outside are unsatisfactory because they don't give him complete control over the world.

I disagree that Reddit and such were the problem here. Yes, a lot of people sleuthed out a lot of the reveals before they happened. But so what? That just means the reveals were foreshadowed well and made sense. Part of the fun of mystery-box stories like these is stewing over them and trying to figure them out, and it's rewarding to get them right. And it's still only the most dedicated super fans that will do that work, the vast majority of the viewers, who are just casual fans, will not see the twists coming. The problem is that the big twists of the show became part of its identity and Nolan came to interpret that that he NEEDED to be unpredictable, to eschew even the sleuthing powers of the likes of Reddit. Which will never work. People will throw out all sorts of crazy theories and some of them will inevitably hit on the truth because there's only so many ways a story can reasonably go. So Nolan looked at that, and said "fuck you all" and starting changing the story mid-season just to have reveals that no one could have seen coming because they don't make any fucking sense. And THAT'S the reason the show went downhill from season 2 onwards. A better show would have understood that, most of the time, you just simply can't replicate major twists from a first season of a high-concept show. It's a trick that only works once and you gotta live with that and adapt for future seasons. Other, better shows understood that, like The Good Place, or Severance, which adapted their form of storytelling significantly from the second season onwards and focused on character-based narratives rather than huge plot reveals.
