Its funny to watch reactors when they first see Miller. I have seen a few actually weep they are so moved! One actually cursed us for keeping it a secret!! LOL. Just a comment: he left the hat on Ceres. And your kitty is both beautiful and adorable! So fluffy!

The airlock scene with Ashford and Drummer is the exactly kind of small complex scene I love the Expanse for. Not saying anything either way about his intentions but in that moment he's being a really solid XO for the most part advising and enabling her while acting as a buffer for harsher parts of leadership. It's fair to think it seems like undermining her, and probably does a bit, but they are both learning roles that are new to both of them. The structure is even really new for their society. I'd also argue however much he might've undercut her was way less than following through with the spacing would've hurt her command.

(and the "Too Long" part of TLDR:) At least with US Navy ships a big part of the XO/Executive Officer's role is to advise the captain, including strongly pushing back where they disagree. That is supposed to be done privately, though, while publicly backing the Captain's decision. Ashford very much pulls Drummer back from making a mistake in spacing the dealer. Within the crew it would've caused some resentment of some, as well as what Ashford mentions himself that it would be seen by the Inners as evidence that Belter's really are all just lawless pirates. It's not perfectly done since it's still pretty clear he changed her mind, but he also didn't have a choice of timing to avoid her carrying through and he does at least try to pull her aside and speak as privately as he can. She does really well here too, because once she was pushed to consider other options, without hesitating she takes the moment to pivot to a really great compromise. When Ashford cuts in with the harsh prison barge threats he's still doing something an XO is there for, if imperfectly since he has to interrupt her. XO's often act as a buffer for things that could cause resentment/distrust by the crew by acting as the 'bad cop'. It's done because on a ship in combat or other emergencies, the crew has to trust and respect the Captain enough that in critical moments they will follow even orders they don't understand or know put them at risk because hesitation could cost the entire ship. Ashford gave Drummer an out to be the 'merciful' one and then immediately stepped in to the 2nd half of her compromise- the threat of punishment if the mercy isn't taken. That way she doesn't have to be the one responsible for any punishment still needed and he even redirects some of the attention away from her first threat.

I'm just trawling through the archives, but it is a crazy coincidence you posted the first appearance of Klaes Ashford in the Expanse, and the first appearance of Robert Wegler in the Sopranos in the same week. Given that they are both played by David Strathairn of course.
