This is as good a point as any (since I assume you're already long done with this season) to mention that Ashford is a very very different character in the books and that this is definitely a situation where the show has improved upon the books; in the books, Ashford is kind of a one-dimensional villain character, obviously opposed to our protagonists and obviously wrong in his beliefs, in addition to being cowardly and openly opportunistic. There are of course a lot more characters in the books than there are in the show, including ones that make the whole thing more interesting than it sounds when I'm describing it here, but still, Ashford is definitely one they made better and IMO, it improved the overall story. Additional thing as to why the circling tactic wouldn't work: short answer is because "turning" IS acceleration, but long answer, I think it's not that hard to see that if you turn (because the bubble is getting nearer), the following ship doesn't need to follow your course precisely (i.e. going towards the bubble in the same direction and then turning at the same point you did), it just cuts immediately to wherever you're turning to, so eventually it's gonna catch up. Idk, it seems intuitive to me.

Julie's father is a narcissist. My parents are too. I didn't realize it when I first saw this episode, but now I realize that the language they use is exactly the same.
