Yeah the bad thing is, AJ really is just an asshole and that's one of the things that I do criticize The Sopranos for. (spoilers, spoilers, for stuff up ahead in this and next season) Because the show never really develops the kids into their own characters and in many ways, they remain stereotyped of the late '90s and early '00s. As teenagers, they're just vacant and rude and arrogant, and as they grow up, spoiled daughters might turn out fine and sweet but spoiled sons will always stay spoiled, stupid dunderheads. Not at one turn does the show actually account for some complexity within Meadow or AJ other than it helps their agenda about how these dumb millenials will turn out. It's definitely one of the admittedly few things in this show that have aged kind of poorly. AJ is unfortunately an asshole in this show and he will remain one until the end. And Meadow is worse than a typical teenager even in the '90s but turns out sweet and competent, which is also a cliché of daughters from that time. I do wish the show had spent more time on them, had made them more complex, or at least hinted at their complexity even if their wasn't time to explore it. I get it, this show is not really "The Sopranos", it's mostly the Tony show but come on, at bit more consideration and effort for the kids would have been worth it. Instead, the showunners chose to cater to lazy, of-the-time stereotypes about teenagers and young people in general.
