The scene with Christopher seeing the family I don't think it had anything to do with the kids, I think he just saw his potential future as a regular citizen and didn't like it.

I think when Christopher looked at that miserable family, he started to think about what a life outside of the mob in witness protection would mean for him, He didnt want to become a regular old generic family, he loves the thrill of his lifestyle and the money/power that comes with it. Ultimately, he chose the mob over Adriana. Like he told her a few episodes earlier, "I'm a soldier Adriana, when are you gonna understand that?"
