Ok so for the 1 billion lions vs all pokemon debate. Assuming we are going based off the rules set being, the use of core game rules, and the lions are considered normal types and are limited to only using normal type moves. After a few minutes of research I’m happy to say we don’t need one of every pokemon, we just need ONE Pokemon. That one pokemon is Tevenant. Trevenant, being a ghost/grass type cannot be hit by the lions, but it gets more interesting than that. Trevenant has access to the ability harvest, which allows a 50% chance to regenerate a berry after it is used in battle every turn. The game has a berry called the leppa berry. The leppa berry restores 10 pp to a move. This means with the pp restoration, the immunity to the lions attacks, and access to the move earthquake, Trevenant can solo 1 billion lions. The next question is how long would it take? Again going based off core game rules, generation 6 had this fun game mechanic of hoard battles, where a wild encounter would have 5 pokemon total. This means the maximum number of lions Trevenant can hit with one Earthquake at a time is 5. Assuming Trevenant is knocking out each lion in one turn per encounter then that means it would take (1,000,000,000/5) 200,000,000 in game turns for Trevenant to wipe out all the lions. To spice it up more let’s put that into D&D standards. A round of combat is 6 seconds long so that’s (200,000,000x6) 1.2 billion seconds, which is 20,000,000 minutes, or 333,333.33 hours, that’s 13,888.88 days, resulting in a continuous battle for just a smidge over 38 years. The average lifespan of a female lion is 15-16 years and a males is 8-10. This is good news for a Trevenant because this means he’ll only have to fight roughly one third of the 1 billion lions.
