NEON NIGHTS: Do any of you have some sort of “ritual” to help get you into the DM mindset before starting a session. And if so, is there a ritual you would recommend for new DM’s who may be nervous?

NEON NIGHTS: I started dming after only playing 3 sessions of dnd and I feel like one of the things I struggled with the most during my first few sessions was remember rules, what I was able to do, and what the players could do with their feats, race, and class abilities. There were a lot of time when we just sat quietly while I looked something up and it really slowed things down. So, what are some ways you have found that make remember these things easier during sessions?

NEON NIGHTS: How exactly do you go about starting from scratch? Do you recommend an outline, bullet points, worldbuilding first, etc? I want to DM someday but I don’t know where to start and it feels a little overwhelming

NEON NIGHTS: What are some tips for making memorable and fun NPCs, and who are some of your favorite NPCs you've gotten to control while dming?

NEON NIGHTS: Not sure if this will make sense, but in the most recent ICEBOUND (SPOILERS) there were moments in the story where you merely described what happened to the PCs. Like when Taishen all of the sudden became the keeper. While awesome, I found that interesting, like it didnt seem like there was a save or chance to do anything and Taishen was none the wiser. In those moments doesnt it stop becoming a collaborative story and it is now Derek saying what is happening with no player agency? I contrast that with how in one of Brenden Mulligans games the players crit a char that was supposed to be a long running villain and killed him, and Brenden couldn't use his planned stories for him. Could you explain your thoughts behind those moments? As a novice DM, what is the balance between moments like those and giving the players complete agency?

NEON NIGHTS: One of my nervous habits is talking. As a newbie DM, how do I shut the fuck up while my players are experiencing the campaign? They don't seem to mind but I hate to think that I'm ruining the immersion or their experience by not being able to control my nervous chatter

Andy, how the hell do you do torbeks voice without killing your vocal cords??? If I tried to do anything similar for even a second I'd sound like I'd eaten a cheese grator for the rest of the week.

I have been bingeing Edge of Midnight while waiting for new Witchlight, and it felt like Nikkie slipped into that style of horror mystery within the Temple, how did that feel to get into your niche again qween!? also, having read the module, STANDING OVATION Nikkie!! First time commenting I binge it while I'm at work Just caught up on once upon a witchlight can't wait to see where it goes I love torbeck I love how he is monotone alot of the time but ramps up or down depending on what's happening like his love for licorice or feathers. Me and my wife go around imitating torbeck. Also recently started doing dnd online on discord running a trickster rouge any fun things you can do with them I do have some fun spells like minor illusion Grease and hideous laughter
