Backlash is stuck due to a few crippling bugs (bug details in comment below). I started on the base ROM 4 years ago while learning ASM coding as I started. To better locate the bugs preventing progress, I need to build from a fresh ROM with improved vision. This will allow me to recode a handful of things to streamline the base ROM to be used in all of my future AKI projects.First step to building the new base ROM is to expand the ROM and RAM area for coding, expand the Entrance theme amount with a WAV sample increase from No Mercy's rough sounding 7000ish to 11000ish. I'd like to release this on here and my discord. It'll basically be No Mercy with extra entrance themes at a higher quality and set up for coders on discord to easily add code. Maybe I'll release an additional update with modified menus and expanded movesets or something?Backlash with still have updates along side this. I should eventually be able to merge them together. With that being said, I think I'll make a $2 tier here allowing the images and text (basically the current $5 tier), allowing for these No Mercy ROM hack updates to be available for the $5 tier and higher.I appreciate everyone here for your continued support, let's squash these bugs!

Bug Details: Season Mode locks the entire game up once it reaches loads back to the menu area after a cut scene. Error Message: "SP DMA READ, SP_DRAM_ADDR_RED not in RDRAM space" Occasionally, leaving/returning from different game areas causes the main menu area to read from different pointers or something. Menu items start to disappear and the game locks up.

Yikes not good news but if a restart is needed then thats what it has to be, hopefully with quite a bit (from what I can see) done for Backlash fingers crossed you can hit the ground running with the new Rom, if its ok could I ask a couple of questions; Will the new Backlash still be for original hardware via Everdrive? Is it possible to give any sort of possible release date estimate for Backlash at this stage?

Retro Randy Price

It will definitely be everdrive compatible. Still no release date. The amount left to do is insane. At the moment I’m the only person working on it. The most time consuming are the arena models and wrestler textures. I wouldn’t think of it as a full restart though. Just more to do on the cleanup project.

when it does release, alot of fans will feel as though they should've paid for this sequel to the beloved NM. Staying on as a patron (despite patreon's cut) should take care of the amount a fan would've paid...and thats on top of getting to see previews and having the ear of the creator himself

So does this push the project back more along the lines of months or closer to a year?

Retro Randy Price

Months for sure. But the entire project is possibly a year out. If everything goes smoothly.

It's possible that I can locate and fix the majors issues at any point when adding things to the fresh ROM. If that's the case, then it could be fixed much sooner.

No problem at all! I was already expecting that the mod wouldn't be released until about a year from now. I can only imagine how challenging it must be to modify the ROM without the aid of cheats, effectively creating an entirely new game. Your efforts are truly commendable - keep up the excellent work!
