Changes to my Patreon (Patreon)

Hi de ho all,

It's been a while posting here but as most of you know, I am on our Discord during work hours (https://discord.gg/joinbiffa) along with around 99% of you lovely Patrons, so all the posts, chat, updates etc are normally on there. 

So, I was recently approached by Patreon and they suggested that I remove my $1 Tier because by the time Patreon take their % cut, and Payoneer/Paypal take their % cut and I pay Tax on it too, there really is nothing left.

What does this mean for you? Well don't worry, if you are already on the $1 tier then your current Patronage won't disappear, you can continue to support at $1 if you wish. 

For new Patrons, the entry level Tier will be $3 and I will also be adjusting some of the rewards that go along with different Tier levels.

I spend a $1 on a number of creators. I get the feeling that if everyone starts requiring $3 (thanks for not forcing Biffa) than I won't be contributing to anybody. I thought the whole point of one payment per month was to lessen the external charges?

Of course that's true, if someone pledges me a million $ they would get a nice sum in fees (they do run a business after all). But there comes a point when a Teir to support me is such that I basically don't actually get any support from it...hence the change :-)

Yeah I don't want to force current Patreons to choose, they are welcome to stay on $1 indefinitely as it won't be going :-)

Hello, Dropping the $1 and making 3 the minimum doesn’t sound crazy to me. I see your point. Could you make a $5,- ? To me, 3 is pocket change, 10 is something to stop and think about. So 5?

I generally don't start at $1 but I can see why some people do. I have a really limited number of people that I can support and tend to start at a minimum of $5 but move to $10 if I watch them a lot. If no one is really making anything from $1, then it only makes sense to move the low amount to one that gives at least a little to everyone.

I to dont understand, I mean if there was only 1 person spending $1000 or 1000 people spending $1 surely the cost is the same?

To you $3 may be nothing but to others that could be a large chunk of expendable income :(

Yes, you are right. So keep it open. Give an extra choice. 1 is out, ad 5. 3 is gone stay. Nothing wrong with that.

You can pledge whatever amount you like when you set it up, you don't need to stick to the Tiers I've put in place :-)
