Hi all,

I wanted to share this video with you all about growing your channel on YouTube.

The second part is particulalry pertinent. It's all about strategy, why strategy is not the same as a plan, can help you define your strategy and why you actually need one. (Man that was a long sentence!!)

Let me know your thoughts below when you've watched it. I would love to hear what your strategies are and I may be able to help you hone your strategy.

Enjoy

Why Most New YouTube Creators Grow Slowly

When you first start making YouTube videos it can be frustrating because your channel grows slowly. There's a lot of reasons for this, but some of them have to do with a few of the tips that Bryant shares in this video.

My strategy is to have many hot cups of tea. I agree having a strategy is important, and that it is something easily confused with plans, and goals. It would also be helpful to identify your core strengths and weaknesses as part of your strategy may be to tackle them, or be shaped by them. Example I want 1k viewers in 6 moths, I'm good at fps games, but fps is a glutted market, can i attract viewers by learning how to play survival games, can I build a core audience by attracting them to these lets learn play videos while cutting back on fps games.

That was interesting, albeit simplified. One of the main reasons I watch anything on YouTube is because of the person in the video.. he/she speaks reasonably good English, doesn't have a grating voice, has a sense of humour... and the video teaches something useful (to me). I subscribe after watching a few of that person's videos, although I have done so after only one because the person just "clicked" for me. Interestingly enough, although the topic was of interest in this particular video, I wouldn't subscribe to either channel. The one spoke too fast, the other was too ingratiating. Biffa, I watch your gaming channel for several reasons. You are fun to watch. You are real. The games you play are the type I play, for the most part. Your voice is pleasant to listen to. I often watch your videos for hours because they are more entertaining than many others. I also enjoy watching Colonel Failure and Vaypah, but I signed on as a Patron to you. You must be doing something right. :)

True, but let's be honest, pretty much most (but not all) games are full of people making videos about them Minecraft more than most. But what really helps, if you can find your strengths and play to them, you get a boost as people will enjoy your videos more as you are enjoying them more. Even games that a glutted as you say, if you can find a niche within them, then there is always an audience for something new and unique :-)

You're right to a degree, but what you mention more often than not, comes down to natural ability, or at least a leaning that is built upon. A good voice for instance, is something you either have or don't - for those that find my voice nice, there a likely 1000's that find it boring. So it's horses for course! :-) Sense of humour, again, can be worked on but usually something natural or at least something that comes out more when you're more relaxed. Making interesting videos, that can be tied closely into your plan or strategy. E.G. setting out to make informative videos rather than just "LP episode xyz" the same old same old we've all sen before. But I am glad you listed what you did about me, thank you. These things are really what I am going for on my channel - being real, informative, humorous/entertaining too and having a voice that isn't shouting n screaming helps too ;-)

Sorry... just was re-reading this and remembered I wanted to comment back. About 'good voice'... when I was taking business management in college, we actually were taught to change our voices. A deeper voice is easier to listen to and anyone can accomplish this with practice. I never did have a squeaky voice, but still managed to lower mine somewhat. And good grammar isn't difficult with a bit of practice as well. I think what isn't something that can be learned is that natural flow of humour and patter that some people have... people such as yourself. I agree with you on swearing, shouting, and screaming. Although I don't mind the odd bit of swearing, a steady stream is, to me, not pleasant to listen to. I enjoy watching people and learning from them,, but some people are just easier. Thanks for many, many enjoyable hours of fun.

Haha, I agree on the first part. I find your voice somewhat relaxing Biffa and I quite often watch your videos before bedtime. I was worried about doing videos as I am not too outgoing in the vocal area but many people I have spoken to internationally through Teamspeak say I have a great (or more like comical perhaps) voice. Probably because of my accent though. I am a bit self conscious but have made a small step into the world of YouTube thanks to you :)

I agree with you June. Except, maybe the swearing part. I know there are many age groups watching Biffa's channel, but swearing within context is not a problem in most cases. However, it would depend on the target audience. I know ZombieCleo cleaned her channel up a bit a few years ago to accomadate(spelling) for the new switch to Minecraft. But if you look at say, Jack Septic Eye, very funny, accomodates (still spelling) for a large range of people, and it seems to be acceptable. Not to say that I would swear around young children though. It is a hit and miss kinda area I think, so probably best not to do it I suppose. Jack's swearing suits his loud, obnoxious character though. I could never imagine Biffa swear or say anything that may offend someone (not deliberately, anyway). I approve of Biffa's channel for any future children I may have (recommend even) Pretty sure they will learn all the swears from me when they're growing up, no need for any other encouragement lol

Btw, the bloke on the right looks like a young Impulse haha
