Paul Watson

Oh yes the CM Punk Cameo lmao Riding out the entrance to his greatest rival Also might I say as a unapologetic Cena fanboy as a child and even now despite opening my tastes outside the WWE spectrum Watching Chicago not get their way by the end of this match brings me great joy

Jay T

I could be wrong but I had only been watching wrestling less than a year when this happened but this was the first time I really remember Cena getting rejected by the crowd as a babyface.

Paul Watson

Honestly I was perfectly fine with it It's not an instant one shot

Dirk Dickbutt

He started getting boo'd when he was drafted to RAW which was like a year before this.

THECRIMSON FUQER

It happened in the World Title match before this as well

Karen

Punk wasn't in the wwe at the time, correct? He was local talent brought in to play a roll.

Paul Watson

He was in OVW actually! He left the indies in the summer of 2005 after his last run in ROH and was in developmental around this time in 2006 He later debuts when ECW becomes a thing later in the year I'm pretty sure

Christopher Barnes

Yeah, Punk was already in the company for a few months after signing in 2005. He would be called up to WWECW in June of this year in 2006.

Phillyman!!

Especially that summerslam match with Jericho. My first time hearing “ let’s go Cena Cena sucks” if I’m remembering correctly

Christopher Barnes

Shawn and Triple H were definitely hinting at something with DX during this time. They both would throw in the "Suck It" from time to time.

I believe this was actually the first match that the crowd did the “YAY BOO” for punches, and it has stuck around to this day. Mike Chioda didn’t necessarily do all Cena matches but he did most main events since he had seniority. I still don’t like how he yells NOW before the kickouts. It’s very evident for the sledgehammer kickout. Even with a little bit of an anticlimactic ending, this was a better match than I had remembered. Can’t believe it’s been 18 years. A good pure match before the ref bump.

Ian Hernandez

Yeah it was definitely at SummerSlam the first time he was prominently booed. The Jericho feud was when it really picked up, but when he first came over to RAW he was still getting cheered, like on the night he was drafted, he got a huge pop.

Ian Hernandez

Yeah this commentary was pretty good. JR is still my favorite play-by-play guy of all time, he just had a gravitas to things that he would say, also gave matches more of a sports like feel.

Diruroru

I remember really not being into this whole thing at the time, but now on a re view it was very good. What was I smokin o o. Both their pops were deafening when they visited UK. Terrible match then but this was good
