Movie Club is fast becoming my favorite part of Patreon.

I personally think this movie was very lackluster. It felt that they didn't know how to pace it properly.

I think I remember seeing one trailer for it

I'm surprised the cat wasn't mentioned. Supposedly this family has been dead for a month, but their cat is alive and well in a pet carrier? Why show that if no explanation is given? Also, they keep saying there is no sign of someone else being in the house when there was for each crime scene. There would have been signs of someone having been there. Sorry to rant, but this movie made my head hurt (no pun intended).

Yeah I didn't even watch a trailer I had a friend who wanted to see it so I went with and left wishing I didn't waste my time lol

I fall somewhere between Trevor and Christian on this one, rating this movie at an aggressively average size 5 legs, not tall but not short. That being said I will watch any and all movies with Nick Cage in it lol. Can’t wait for Pulse, that movie is phenomenal.

For the cat part, I'm guessing the cops had just caught it and put it in the carrier that day. Otherwise it definitely would've died being trapped for a month. But if it had free roam of the house until the cops came, it easily could have lived a month on its own (eating mice or...people). I bet there was a line from one of the other cops in the scene about how they caught the cat, but the line got cut.

I just saw Longlegs today and came home and listened to this episode. I wish they had waited to review it until after it was released on physical media/streaming so they could re-watch before the episode. I think they missed quite a bit of nuance and a lot of the critique was comparing the movie to the marketing, which just isn't interesting in my opinion. I only saw one teaser for the movie, and based on the reactions here, I'm glad for that. But it needs to be understood that often, the people who actually make the movie have zero say in the marketing. I hope they stick to movies that aren't currently in theaters in the future because Movie Club has quickly become my favorite part of this podcast, and I think their evaluations of "older" movies have been extremely interesting and fun. All that aside, I did immediately figure out where Longlegs was living and who his accomplice was. There was no real mystery, even though I kept hoping I was wrong. It's definitely not a perfect movie, but the work put into it doesn't deserve hate because the marketing team missed the mark.

Have you guys gotten a chance to look at the marketing ARG website or the phone number for the movie? The number played a voice recording (*deep breathing noise*...I'll be waiting...) - up until July 14 (I think) and currently has a different recording (*sobbing noise*...happy birthday to you...). The website is about the birthday murders, appears like a blog documenting the cases in depth. It has various zip files that are password protected (yay deciphering). I'm rambling & don't wanna repeat info that you might already know about, but I think it would be interesting to look into, even though you've watched the movie already 👀

I found this movie genuinely terrifying. I absolutely loved it. One of my favorite horror movies of the year so far.

The whole flip flop of mystery to demon possession reminds me how I felt about Ben Drowned, I love the paranormal murder mystery vibes but then it did a whole 180 with a demon possession and it ruined it for me

I've really been enjoying movie club. I'm a big baby when it comes to horror movies so it's great to have a full summary and you guys talking about different aspects of the movie. It's also really nice when I'm working from home to listen along while I'm doing the more tedious aspects of my job.

I’d love to do a movie club on seven, it’s such a good movie that has so many layers

I didn’t see any of the marketing for the film other than the teaser where it’s the audio of the father saying that it’s not his daughter & the last scene being the doll covered up. I got the impression it was going to be a supernatural film and to me thats what it was. I’m surprised there is no mention of the demon/devil being present in the background no less then 10 times in the movie. It happens very early in the film which again told me this was going to be a supernatural movie. Although I did read somewhere that people who saw the film in the theaters didn’t notice the demon in the background for the majority of the scenes that it occurs. Maybe watching it at 1:00am with all the lights off made me enjoy it more & gave me more chills. The feeling as if something is watching me after seeing the demon appear in the background a few times within like the first hour of the film. I do agree the ending I didn’t like. There was no real payoff for me. Also when Longlegs started singing in the flashback that to me was just Nick Cage & it stopping scary for me after that. Lol I’m with Trevor I enjoyed it a lot & I give it 7.8 Longlegs. ☺️🫶🏻

I agree I too found it genuinely terrifying. Which never happens at all. I was watching it in the middle of the night & seeing the demon in the background a few times within the first hour I decided to stop it & watch it during the day. I was getting too creeped out. Lol

The lack of theater etiquette sometimes can be insane. Which is why I think Alamo Drafthouse is the absolute best. I feel spoiled that I have one close to me.
