Today we discuss the true crime story of Belgium's Brabant Killers.

In the 1980s a small gang was able to strike fear in the entire country of Belgium. With no aversion to violence, they primarily robbed supermarkets, but a clear motive for their crimes was never found. Today we discuss the notorious Brabant Killers.

Sensitive topics: murder, child death, animal death

Sweet! Now I have a good mystery to listen to while I fight my insomnia. This show is the best part of every monday.

Rachel

I really feel for the Belgium police, as they had such a hard time with this group. It's sad that they were bickering amongst themselves for as long as they were. I definitely think that someone was an insider.

Tsuris

Hey guys, uh, wrong store URL at the end of the episode 😬

Kristopher Lindsey

So is Trevor the only owner of Red Web? I thought all four were co-owners.

Sphinx_Jer

This man, will get it right one of these weeks.

As I'm Belgian, I can testify that going grocery shopping felt dangerous at that time. Ik was 7 years old, but it is a memory I will not forget.

Brabant has split in a Dutch speaking and a French speaking part. You can say it did not exist anymore.

Dirk Van Daele

My view on this is that you had some core gang members that were psychopats high on drugs that did this out of pleasure. I believe that it ended in the death of at least one member.

Dirk Van Daele

This has been investigated by at least 3 groups of police. Some of it was an investigation of the investigation. Next top the police journalists and politcians investigated this. And a bunch of theories and conspiracies we're produced. However, in the end there is nothing proven. 10 years ago there was a debate tot not extend the status of limitation. This would mean the gangsters would ben able to confess their crimes without risks. We would had some answers and what is the point of putting a 70 year old into jail?

Thank you for making the start of my work week better!

Bazooka Joe

This was a really good episode, I love the ones where even the possible motives are baffling

Aidan Dressler

You guys have covered some dark stories but this one was the saddest episode so far in my opinion. So much senseless shooting of strangers for such a long time, for such little motivation/reward. Truly scary stuff.

different branches of law enforcment dont get along probably a ego thing is so dumb like 911 of could have been prevented but one branch didnt communcate to the other about the attack 24 hours before

Dirk Van Daele

This is 40 years ago. The gendarme then would play a roll to stop the Russians when they would invade. That is the Westland New Post story: some would train privately for WW III and make plans to influence politics. It would take Dutroux (a child abtuctor scandal) to reorganise the Belgian police. We now have one unified police Force. There are still issues, but ego's should not play a role anymore.

This was a really good episode - well done team!

Being somebody with a little bit of background and a little bit of information about this kind of stuff, I would personally bet that the cars that they were stealing, and then abandoning, they were stealing then immediately filling with drugs, doing a drug run and then abandoning it afterwards. Or they were going for joyrides but I’d bet they were doing drug runs. I know a couple people who used to do it. It almost makes me wonder if all the coffee and dumb stuff they were stealing was actually then dumped of what it used to contain and then filled with drugs. Like Mexican smugglers will take beer bottles and dump out the beer then fill it with heroin to try to sneak it past customs.

I have a theory... the muscle (mac), the tall (dennis), the old man (frank)?
