Hi, Task Force! Ever since we covered EAL Flight 980, the team here at HQ has been curious about more airplane mysteries! We had a few we were looking at and thought why not have YOU choose which one we cover?

Here’s a brief rundown of the 3 we chose:

The Star Dust Accident

On August 1, 1947 an Avro Lancastrian airliner, a small plane which carried up to 13 people, crashed into the Andes.

The plane was named Star Dust

What was strange about this crash was the final transmission as the plane approached Santiago, Chile.

The radio operator did not understand the final word they said, so the Star Dust crew responded with STENDEC in morse code TWICE.

No one knows for sure what STENDEC means.

TWA Flight 800

This 1996 crash is the third deadliest in US history.

The plane exploded just 12 minutes after takeoff from JFK Airport in New York.

This explosion caused the crash, but the NTSB could not identify the source of its ignition.

Some witnessed on the ground claimed to have seen a “streak of light” before the explosion, leading to many conspiracy theories.

The plane wreckage was reconstructed to attempt to find the cause of the explosion.

EAL Flight 401

Another EAL case! This plane crashed into the the Florida Everglades on its way to Miami in 1972.

The cause of the accident is known, however, strange rumors spread after.

Apparently EAL reused some of the parts from this plane on other planes, where it is said passengers and crew members alike have seen ghosts.

In particular, ghosts of the pilots from EAL 401.

Eventually one of these plane pieces ended up at the Ed & Lorraine Warren Museum, and supposedly a Ouija board was used on the plane to contact the dead.

So, what do you think? Which case would you like to hear us discuss?

Twa Flight 800 definitely peaks my interest the most but the EAL flight 401 is a close second. I don't think I've seen/heard of a haunted plane before

Star Dust & then the haunted one for me. Not really that into plane mysteries (it usually ends up just making my fear of flight worse), but I like the mystery of Star Dust & the haunted aspect of the other.

I'm surprised it's such a close race but all 3 are real interesting

Right!!!

I definitely want to hear about Star Dust, but I think the task force will vote for flight 401.

Whenever there's an aviation episode, especially pre-independent, I've always been curious if there was discussion around having Gus guest as an aviation expert. I know that you don't work together anymore and it would be more ideal as a cross-promotion for Black Box Down, but it seems like it would still be relevant to cross-promote Stinky Dragon, especially since it's mutually beneficial to Trevor through Barb. I just notice during aviation episodes that Christian has to spend time tracking down answers that I know that Gus knows by heart, and has the ability to parse out very complex answers not discernible by a lay person. I know that post-RT, people are always bandying about "when will these and those people collab together?! Why don't you just form together into one big company?" so I hope this doesn't come across as that. Mostly curious if this was something considered before the shutdown

flight 401 has so many insane details abt the crew/survival if you really dig in it's so interesting

This is just to decide which one to cover first, right? I want to hear about all three of these! I'm willing to upgrade my subscription if it will help convince y'all.

I'm really into plane disasters and disasters in general, which as I type it realize how that sounds but I swear I'm not *that* weird. So I've heard of all these, least familiar with Star Dust, but I voted for EAL Flight 401 because I think that would be a good and in it's own way straightforward one to make an episode about. And let's be honest we all love a good old haunted plane parts story! But can't wait to hear you all tell any of these stories (though I have FEELINGS about some of conspiracy theories around the TWA flight) It'll be exciting for me to already be super familiar with the story before you tell it for once!

I agree with your sentiment that it would be interesting to have Gus guest star for an episode like that I did really like black box down
