This week on Movie Club, Christian takes the crew through the plot of the 2016 sci-fi thriller movie 10 Cloverfield Lane and they debate the quality of the ending. What do you think? Should it have ended sooner? Or had a different ending altogether?

Only 4 minutes in and going off memories of years ago. But I had the opposite reaction of Trevor when I first saw the movie. I went in excited for monsters, got a entirely different type of monster than I was expecting. Was disappointed shortly after the end until my perspective switched up. I thought it was awesome to have a contained, almost 'normal', side story to a monster apocalypse. Ever since I've really enjoy stories or movies in settings and with backgrounds that almost have nothing to do with the contained plot. They're rare enough I can't think of another example off the top of my head, but it's fun to see a broken off take on established franchise. Completely understand why I'm the odd one out though. Gonna back to listening xD P.S. As an example imagine a fake reality TV show where they just dropped lore in the background about a orbital research station crashing. Turns out that station was holding Aliens and by the end you know everything you just watched including the winners passionate speech are just dust in the wind cause that planet is gonna be history. I would love that story.

Okay after finishing, I've been reminded just how long that ending dragged on. I think it would've been okay even so except for just how much action they shoved into it. Similar to what the redweb cast thinks. It just didn't need that tone shift if the movie stuck with the whole question->suspense->reveal->re-question loop it had going I think it wouldn't of soured that last note. Also I was one of those people who got irrationally angry with the plot point of the crossroads. It's a good narrative cliche but it felt so forceful that it negated it's value.

Loved this movie club movie, it was one that I enjoyed but can also agree with the criticism. I was thinking that he ended up murdering his wife and daughter cause of everything that happened with them trying to leave. I look forward to the next one!

It feels so good to have someone else also notice how Howard literally can’t see Michelle as a grown woman. At this point in the movie, it’s a validation of his mental state and what happened with the previous ‘Megan’ and he’s trying to repeat the cycle. It makes me wonder if Michelle had jumped in instead of Emmett and said she was trying to make Howard a present if he would have bought it or still killed Emmett anyway. Howard may have just been looking for an excuse tho so maybe it wouldn’t have made a difference.
