Exploring the history and theories behind the case of the "missingest" man in New York, the Disappearance of Judge Joseph Crater.

In the 1930s, New York City was a political powerhouse, but in a world of secrets, bribery, and corruption, it seems no one is safe. As was the case, when a New York Supreme Court Justice vanished without a trace, tilting the city on its axis. Once considered the “missingest man in New York”, today, we’re investigating the disappearance of Judge Joseph Crater.

I actually learned about this by mistyping in Google lol so cool to see it covered.

Such a cool case. I actually learned about this in college. I was so happy to see it covered. My brain did get stuck on needing Trevor to do an "Aaarooogah" ringtone. 🤣

Zarathustra

it was a Lizard that did. This Lizard can be seen pressing a button over, and over again.

What's stopping a time traveler from traveling back to see who did a famous crime, saying and changing nothing in the timeline and returning to their time with a theory that conveniently fits perfectly. Lets get a department on that

Red Web

Who's to say we haven't already done this? 👀

NefariousBees

Wait, are you implying that Hillary Clinton had something to do with this??? Lol

Kody Beddes

As a tall man with red hair. I resent these accusations of attacks

hmm this is one thats gonna frustrate me lol first, in regards to the suicide theory i just wish we couldve had some record on how others who knew him felt about that idea, especially his wife on one hand, ppl often assume rich and powerful men cant be depressed but ofc we know thats not true sometimes that power can be what leads to depression, or it can be a cover for it it leads to too much speculation on his character that we simply cant know but, what came to my mind: did the wife not divorce him for going around with show girls bc she didnt care? i mean, on one hand shes already been thru one divorce so its not like the social stigma would be an issue but also that might make it worse bc if we did a good job with her divorce she might not want to go against him in court lol especially after hes made judge to allow me a wild moment of speculation: what if she was okay with it bc she knew it was smthn he did to cope with his depression? not in those terms lol but in her own way from a position of someone who would know him best bc that type of behavior isnt uncommon with ppl who are depressed--nowadays it often shows as addiction to porn anyway, id be interested in knowing what was discussed during that last dinner then we get to some of my biggest wrinkles with this theory the money do we know that the total of the checks and bonds equals what would have been expected? of either what all was withdrawn and liquidated, or perhaps what would be expected to remain after paying off his debts, potentially? why do all of that if he was just going to give it to his wife anyway? genuinely, bc maybe it would make it easier for her with that method but maybe not also, an interesting question: his parents were irish immigrants--does that mean hes catholic? not that catholics never commit suicide, but i think its important to consider given that suicide is considered a sin that automatically sends you to hell would that also effect his method of potential suicide, even beyond the decision of if he should do it or not? for example, even if he doesn't believe but his parents do then him being missing or potentially murdered means that his parents can hold a catholic service for the loss of their faithful son which might explain a few things with his wife, if she was maybe helping him she loves him but cant stop him and he convinces her to help him hide what hes done as a last favor that could lead to why she waited so long why the phone call before he left doesnt make sense if he committed suicide--the one that only she heard her finding the files in a drawer the police already searched files with money and paperwork seemingly left behind by him to help her and his note all of this is wild speculation ofc, but a theory i find pretty compelling there are other questions i have tho why did the wife wait 9 years to declare him dead? bc that was the legal requirement at the time, or was it for some other reason? what exactly were his politics as a judge? he was corrupt enough to buy his way in, allegedly, but what were his limits? to put it another way: would he have been an enemy of the mobs as a judge? or was he the type of judge who could be paid off? were there any cases of note handled by him prior to his death? also, has anyone else been able to confirm about the rented rooms? if that guy rented his room to politicians then someone else would be able to confirm that, surely id also want more confirmation from witnesses regarding the police and taxi brothers actually being involved with silencing ppl--theres gotta be SMTHN and my most important question: who allowed it to be called smthn as goofy as Murder Incorporated?? that's some cartoon ass shit lol anyway sorry for the essay, im autistic and this is probably one of my top 5 episodes from yall now lol makes my brain go brrrrr
