I was really excited for this episode! Then listening to it made me feel just as down as when I watched the movie lol. I feel the exact same as Christian about most of this movie. I think it's an amazingly well made film with incredible acting from the cast, but I don't think I would ever even recommend the movie to someone else.

Yeah can’t get with this one. Stopping mid way. One of the ways I convey my love of red web is the fact they share the unknown, even murder mysteries, without being grotesque. I can’t listen to others because they sit too long in the macabre of the mystery. This one didn’t hit for me personally and gave me the feeling I get from those other podcasts I stopped listening to. Not a condemnation, just my personal experience. 🖤

Saw this in theaters and it was an experience. Me and the friend I saw it with couldnt even speak to eachother until we got to the car. It was so visceral and uncomfortable. Also, the cinematography was immaculate and the theater surround sound made it so much more visceral. A 10/10 movie i cant recommend lol

Normally I don't comment on people's opinions of things, cause to each their own right? But in this case, they made it very clear that this movie club episode has a lot of heavy topics in the first few minutes. So if you don't want to hear it, that's 1000% your choice, but what you said is kind of mean. Movie Club is about horror movies so it's going to get macabre. With this one they actually kept it pretty vague compared to actually seeing it yourself.

I hear ya, and agree to a certain point. Talking about certain topics is very heavy, murder alone is intense and heavy. I mean the details by which it is expounded. I just was noting this one lingered in the grotesque (by virtue of the movie choice sure) and was sharing my opinion about it. I would be remiss if this became something more focused on that side of mystery and whatnot and didn’t say anything in case I’m not the only one who feels that way. There is nothing mean in having a contrary opinion about art.

Completely agree with Christian on this! I absolutely hated it because of that.

The movie itself was definitely more grotesque than I prefer & I definitely won't be rewatching it. I never liked the saw movies because of the emphasis on the gore. I think the way you worded your response made me think it was more of a jab at their discussion of the movie than the movie itself. What they said was super tame compared to the movie. While it's completely fair to dislike listening to certain topics, it feels silly when people complain about something they were clearly warned about in the beginning, so people who don't want to hear them know to stop the episode. I come across that a lot when it comes to true crime & horror.

Sometimes I listen to Christian's takes on horror movies and I get the impression he doesn't like any kind of movie that has any kind of discomfort in it. Which is a shame because Talk To Me and Bring Her Back and Battle Royale had LAYERS and LAYERS of complexity that haven't been touched on in Movie Club. Get Gillian on this, she knows how to sit with discomfort and might have more to say.

I dont know if it was just my version of the movie but I watch subtitles and when you hear the voice call out mom it showed Cathy's name. I thought this was a well done movie until the end, it made me uncomfortable the whole time and they did a great job. But that woman not getting her come uppings and the children suffering with no real wins killed me lol.

Random question, is there a redweb letterboxd?
