Exploring the history, fact, and fiction behind this prominent Korean urban legend known as the Fan Death Myth.

Is it possible to be killed by something as simple as running your electric fan at night? Most notably in South Korea, it's a fear that’s cemented itself into society for decades. So much so, that it’s changed the way many go about their daily life. Today, we’re looking into the phenomenon of Fan Death.

i know electric fand that i have bought here in the US have had warnings about electrocution or overloading a circuit, but never about the appliance use causing suffocation

Chrismayn

the fan deaths probably come from the bad air pollution in that country

Not sure how believable it is. Theoretically, sure, but plausible?

In the UK we’ve got fans and tower fans with timers, and some even have night modes. I always sleep with a fan on in my closed room because it gets way too warm otherwise. Never heard about this before, so it was actually really interesting!

I have been sleeping with a box fan on for about 20years. I can't fall asleep without the noise, if the power goes out and the fan stops I'm instantly awake.

You comin' for the Jersey Devil..? ...Better watch out for the Milkasaurous...

MagicUnicorn93

I was fully expecting this to be about them falling out of the ceiling, which is why I can’t sleep with a fan on 😂
