Looking at the intriguing history and origins behind the legendary creatures of European folklore: werewolves.

Since the first piece of literature, stories and folklore have been passed down through generations about a monstrous creature. We’ve seen them depicted in iconic books, movies, and television shows that have made them a staple in our culture. With their incredible size and incurable bloodlust, they’ve been the object of nightmares for millennia. Today, we’re diving into the history and origins of werewolves.

In regards to Peter Stump. I moved from near SF to Raleigh, NC. People here are genuinely friendly and not afraid to ask you how you're doing. It threw me off when I first moved, but it is normal in some places.

You're telling me the oldest story we still have that was written down contained a werewolf? Guaranteed we had werewolf stories going back thousands more years. 100%. Also probably because the oldest religion of humans is animism, with shamans that would wear pelts of animals, such as wolves, and get all oracly and stuff. I imagine 'more evolved' humans would look at those 'savages' and say ''behold, they've turned into beasts!'' Voila, werewolves.

In Scotland we don't so much have folklore about werewolves but something similar, Wulver were wolf-headed people in Shetland who were for the most part benevolent (they'd share fish with families) but would become violent if provoked. Unfortunately, most Scottish myth is oral in nature so we don't have all that much on them.

Twilight absolutely not smut lmao. However there is a good bit of smut out there. First to mind that is recent is Bride and Mate by Ali Hazelwood

So Werewolves are not blessed by the Daedric Prince Hircine with the Gift of Lycanthrope? Only a blessed few get this honour also if you past away you get to go to Hircine's realm the Hunting Grounds. It's only fun for Hircine. I am a devoted follower of Molag Bal. I am a vampire.

True be told you can do a part 2 of this because there is SO MUCH werewolf lore. And I love it.

Man when Fredo said, "Essence of evil" my mind went, "Is that the junior version of the Axis of Evil?" Also, y'all wanna hear some wild stories about full moon theory talk to ER doctors/nurses, EMTs, & retail workers. Used to work at Walmart & we would constantly ask/joke, "Is there a full moon tonight?" when people were getting a little extra crazy in our store. I don't know if it's a gravitaional thing or what, but the moon plays with people's brains.

The word “lunatic” is based on the word “luna” which means moon. There’s a reason that superstition exists. And as someone in emergency services, full moons are busy nights!

The full moon is a bright light that shines the whole night. Light pollution does have consequences for nature and humans. A full moon can cause issues with night sleep, making people more agitated, making them more aggressive, more animal like. It will also impact animal behavior, maybe make it more easy for wolves to hunt at night. There are the foundations of the myth. The only thing you need is a violent murderer that becomes aggressive due to sleep deprivation and you have a story. Not that unlikely.

As a huge lover of wolves I really just had to make a quick plug for my usual defense of the grey(gray) and red ones. While they deserve respect and caution in the wild they typically avoid humans in modern day (if you want a source I like this one but a quick google search for "academic journals on wolf attacks" will get you to one of hundreds of peer reviewed papers on modern analysis of wolf behaviors.) Be kind to man's best friend and their ancestors please. Thanks for making a wonderful episode Red Web team. I look forward to movie club tomorrow! Source: Linnell, Kovtun, and Rouart. Right? I feel like he was just a friendly guy in a town of people that must have kept to themselves?

I moved from New Jersey to Michigan, for a few years, and the first time I went grocery shopping, someone stopped and waved at me not long after entering (this was not an employee...just a woman with a cart. Shopping). Apparently, without even realizing I was doing it, I just gave her a dirty look. The girl that I was with (born and raised in MI) hit my arm and asked what was wrong with me, to which, my response was "What did she want from us?". To which I got the response, "Jesus Christ, you're so New Jersey....she was saying hi!".

Milkasaurous

How. Dare. You. Trevor....How dare you? Bringing up The Jersey Devil's name...after the way you all did him dirty in last year's Monster Madness.
