So, it won't be on Spotify or Apple podcast?

Matthew Hall

It won’t be in the Patreon members feeds? (I’m an Elite Task Force member)

Oh! Give it a second. It should be there now. There was an issue on our end!

Red Web

Oh I see, it's not on the Patreon RSS feed. That should be corrected!

The Glimpse

The first two thirds of this movie was incredible. The last 20 minutes was "what the fuck?"

Great discussion and some awesome historical info I didn’t catch. I also like Christian took the vampires as mostly honest in their inviting the survivors to join them, and their shock at Annie dying (and Remmick saying he’s not a racist). To me one of the big themes is the vampire hivemind as a metaphor for cultural assimilation, where it IS a kind of liberation and empowerment, like Stack and Mary seem fine and thriving at the end, there’s a connection to ancestry and identity that’s you lose/give up. And they’re still nostalgic for that time before.

After listening to this and seeing Sinners late last year, I'm realizing it has become my favorite movie - which is the first time it's changed. It was Remember the Titans since my mom showed that to me as a kid. I'd love to see more of the lore of the world of Sinners, but really I just want a story focused on the Native Americans (who also had land taken from them yet are still trying to protect) and their vampire hunting and their culture - that would be a cool exploration.

I NEED to see this in Imax! That sounds amazing!!

The vampires are socialists - anti racist, anti religious, working class people converting their neighbors of all creeds and colors to conform to a single, co-operative, shared vision. Their thirst for blood would be the revolutionary spirit, and their shared thoughts would be the shared dream of a stateless, borderless society (to the point where even their minds don't have borders) Socialist ideals are also immortal, almost "undead" after being destroyed many times and always coming back.

And of course both the vampires and socialism are misunderstood and viewed as evil. Infiltrators that intend on betraying any trust non-vampires give them to achieve their (questionably) altruistic goal. Being a socialist is also comparable to being cursed because it begins to consume your entire world view and can be very frustrating to live in a capitalist world. I get the sense Ryan Coogler was trying to say that the power of music and culture (individualism) attracts socialists who are infamous for grey commie blocks and identical uniforms (conformity)

You WILL have free healthcare/cool red eyes whether you like it or not!

Not to purely be a comedian because Trevor made a great take away point; however, "the background symbology" part...i believe the word you are looking for is symbolism (had to do a Willem Dafoe reference). Im just playing around, i love the content thanks folks!

Listening to this episode late, but I wanted to add some context to the beginning of the movie! It’s Very Important/Intentional that the people going after Remmick are Choctaw! During the Great Famine (which I assume Remmick would’ve at least been witness to/saw devastate his community), the Choctaw (despite being subjected to the Trail of Tears around the same time) sent aid to the Irish. Today, there are dual monuments in Ireland and the US honoring that. I assume the Choctaw chasing Remmick are symbolic of that relationship in some way. Maybe Irish vamp hunters warned the Choctaw this guy was coming, maybe the Choctaw are doing “cleanup” - I’m not sure what I’d like more, but I def see them as connected!
