Long John Silvers is the best! Definitely not a place to eat every week though. The hush puppies are truly wonderful. Put the malt vinegar on everything! You've gotta try them at least once in your lifetime.

So stoked to hear we are finally getting the scary stories again its so good!! Also this guy was one hell of a pirate (not saying he was a good person, he just did what real pirates do and he did it well). Great episode this week! 10/10

Long John Silvers is definitely a once a year place. Almost everything is fried

Long John Silvers is good, at least I liked it when I was a kid, but it's definitely among the more "not great for you" places, & I remember the floors always being so incredibly gross, like greasy slippery gross.

Kay, so I'm 2.5 minutes into the episode & came to comment on buried treasure, cause honestly I hate the concept so much cause it's such BS. Most "treasure" wasn't gold or gems. It was fabrics, spices, & even people. Pirates dealt in slaves, that's just a fact. If it made money, pirates dealt in it. So, burying these things would make no sense. Even if it was gold & gems it would still make NO SENSE because it's not like that stuff can be traced. If they needed to lighten the load to go faster, they'd dump useless stuff first, then food. Stuff that was easy to get back at the next port. The only way a pirate is letting their "treasure" go is if it goes down with the ship. Also, I came down here & saw comments about Long John Silvers & thought, "Oh yeah good book. That's where the idea of buried treasure came from, but why is someone saying how sticky the floors were?" Then I remembered the restaraunt, which is good food. I wish my town still had one in the area lol. Edit of my already bloated comment: Pirates were the quentisential paycheck to paycheck workers. They'd rob enough to have fun at the next port, spend all they had, then have to head back out to sea to rob some more.

Love the added insight here! Thank you. We talk briefly about the myth of "buried treasure" and the concept that it's always gold, etc. but I appreciate this deeper history!

Yeah I heard that when I finished the episode, but was so excited to put my 2 cents in I couldn't wait lol

Sinners is playing in theaters in Cali as a lead up to the awards. You might be able to catch it in IMAX again.

Long John Silvers is under the same umbrella as Arby’s and Taco Bell for me; it’s objectively garbage, but it’s my garbage and I love it lmao

I'm fairly certain that the only pirate to actually bury his treasure (not a euphemism) was Captain Kidd. It's not exactly unheard of for a stereotype to grow from just a single person, its how we got the stereotypical pirate voice as well.

Crazy as hell that I've never heard of this man, before the episode came out. The OG Man Hunt origin. I wonder what became of him. You guys seemed to have some good theories. Although, I definitely love the one about him going back to his old town. But you definitely get the whole, "That dude looks like old Henry Every." idea. Also, I definitely think the spy letter was definitely just a Codename, based off Captain Every.
