Exploring the urban legend of Mel's Hole, a supposed bottomless pit first heard about on Coast to Coast AM. It was said to emit a black beam, restore a pet back to life, and even be a portal to another dimension.

On a night like any other, Coast to Coast AM was live on the radio in Washington State, USA. The overnight program discussed all things uncanny and entertained the discussion of a local man who claimed his backyard held something otherworldly. He would call periodically over the next 5 years, each time with new information about a magical bottomless pit in his backyard. What started as a piece of local lore eventually required a full government intervention, and the man was never heard from again. Today, we’re discussing the eerie urban legend of Mel’s Hole.

You guys have actually touched on this one before! I believe it was in the Hollow Earth episode, this was one of the cases that was said to prove the existence/reality of HET. Cool to see a full episode about it!

This feels like a story youd hear from a friend in middle school, in a similar vein to my girlfriend goes to another school or my dad is the head of xbox/Playstation and im gonna get your account banned. Great episode though I enjoyed the weirdness of this one.

This was an interesting case that has me of two minds. 1. "Mel" was a great story teller & just loved having everyone shook by these stories & getting that hit of "got 'em" or 2. "Mel" was having mental health breaks (I'm thinking paranoid schizophrenia, but I'm not a doctor so don't quote me on that) & would occasionally go off his meds & for some reason this was his reality at that time. I don't know, either way, I feel like the hole isn't real. Also, nice to see the return of Huck Johnson & that he's alive & well lol

We're going deep into Mel's Hole today.....don't make it weird 😂🤣

None of these coordinates seem to be west of ellensburg is my big sticking point, when that's the one piece of information we do have about the hole. If it is 9 miles west of ellensburg, that's almost in the mountains and I feel like people just cant find a good hole in the mountains so theyre saying "good enough"

Thank you! I was about to have to deep dive into past episodes because I knew they'd talked about it before but I couldn't remember which episode it would have made sense for them to have done so

Thank you as well! I was having serious deja vu about this one.

Put this on during a road trip as we were leaving Washington State and it startled me when Trevor said this was in Washington lmao

There is a spot that could have inspired story's like this in Arizona. Its near seligman arizona. It was called devils sink hole by the locals. It was maybe 1/4 mile deep. It was a pretty place with birds in it my first visit. Then the locals started to dump trash, refrigerator's and cars etc in it. It was a dead quiet lifeless hole my next visit. Some locals got together to remove all the trash and car etc. Years later i found out the owner of the land put up a fence so people would stop hanging out there. Dont think anyone ever fell in or anything. But quite a few similarities to the story. Anywho. Grains of truth pushed too far is my theory too. The tale always gets mote elaborate with each telling.
