Detailing the history behind Operation Gladio, led by the CIA during the throes of the Cold War and involving America's stay-behind involvement in Europe, specifically Italy.

From the 1960s through the 1980s, Italy was a political no-man's land. The far right and far left were in a constant state of intense battle, with murders, kidnappings, and bombings happening everywhere. In the throes of the Cold War, no one suspected that the constant upheaval could be an inside job. But was it Italy’s own government, with the help of the CIA, causing this political turmoil, or a coincidental bystander? Today, we’re investigating Operation Gladio.Sensitive topics: Bombings, suicide, death, terrorist attacksSubmitted by Task Force member Girder

You cannot imagine how many times I refreshed my feed today after I read the preview.

The ICC exists to hold individuals in governments accountable for their crimes. Unfortunately it also relies on countries actually assisting them in carrying out their duties such as carrying out arrest warrants, which you can probably guess how many don't want to admit wrong doing either for themselves or close allies.

I was born in 1978 in Belgium. I do recall the terror of left (the CCC), the Brabant killers, IRA, Rote Armee Fraktion,... This is also the cold war and I do believe it was part of it. This kind of violence died down with the end of the cold war. From the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989 until 9/11 in 2001 the world believed that we have entered a better word. Even the first Golf War I see as the World against a dictator who occupied a country that wasn't theirs. I believe this was probably the best decade for humanity. We do not live in those times anymore. We are back to violence and distrust. Then again, world war III hasn't happened yet. It could easily have been the case, in Russia or Taiwan, but nobody is prepared to cross that line. This gives me hope, that "the world" is in consensus that peace is better than war. That the only way is to cooperate. Better times are coming, but don't ask me when.

The United Nations is a place the countries of the world can talk. Practically all agreements between a group - if not all - countries happens inside the UN. If you talk about war and peace, climate change, drinking water, aids epedemics, who can own Antarctica or the Moon,... It happens on UN furniture.

If you want a good concise summary of the pros and cons of the UN then check out History of Everything video "Is the UN useless?". Only about 30 min. They've undeniably done an amazing amount of good in the realm of combating epidemics/disease and food insecurity, and even some military achievements (Korea), but they've also had A LOT of very bad and preventable failures (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Rwanda). A very big overall issue is the veto powers held by only 5 countries. For example, if there's a war or something happening somewhere, it just takes one of them to veto any intervention and cause thousands more innocents to die as a result, even if the other 4 and the rest of the worlds nations vote in favor of intervention.

Trevor was on fire for this one. Must be his wife rubbing off on him. Talking about it a car bomb: “I am TRUN(K)cating a lot of the details…”. Alfredo brings up the Sunset train tracks sabotage: “theres a lot of PARALLELS, now that I think about it,….”. Puns for days.
