AHOY JRWIENERS! We are delaying Riptide 127 and switching Riptide's release schedule to tri-weekly. The next episode will now be uploaded on May 2nd, the one after on May 23rd, and so on! With the stakes rising and the complexity of each session varying, our current release schedule is too tight of a deadline to ensure quality, and we have long been tired of delaying them. This change is temporary until we finish editing Riptide completely, once all episodes are finalized, we will switch to a weekly schedule and finish it out with a bang! (no silly viewer, this does not mean we have finished filming riptide... yet.)We have also expanded our team to have all our projects in the works simultaneously! We're still working on some public one-shots, and the next UPP episode is progressing smoothly. More to come! Lots of the funniest and most engaging sessions we've ever filmed!

Thank you so much!

jrwi be like what’s up guys here’s how we’re getting even worse

Onihello

Thank you king. Stay strong king. We love you king

Bob McBobert The 87th

Sad riptide is triweekly but very excited that you are putting enough time and energy into it. VERY EXCITED

Cucumber Joe

just dropped to my knees in a walmart

Bob McBobert The 87th

They aren’t getting worse they are putting a proper amount of work into their episodes and not rushing them

Crab Crafting

Alright I appreciate the communication but I don’t think imma keep paying 5 bucks a month for this

Bob McBobert The 87th

Do we have a date for the public one shot that we were told anout

Wiwi

This had made me realise riptide is gonna end and it could be this year and now im extremely sad also does this mean that riptide and upp epsiode 2 are releasing on the same day?? Edit: this means 12 more early access episodes of riptide this year (I believe!)

Thomas Flores

Just saw a dude drop to his knees in a walmart

Nova

Boooooo

xander

guys they just want to produce quality content they have a lot going on at once its not unreasonable

Theojohnslater

Just saw a dude see a dude drop to his knees in wallmart

DetectiveMango

I know right I love the show and I wanna support them but we’ve gotten 2 sessions for this entire month and one is early access

Eli

Absolutely excited to see everything y'all are cooking up! I know these are gonna be peak with the time and energy put into them!!!

Nova

JRWI crew start caring about audio only listeners challenge: Impossible

Eggyneer

just stole a TV from a walmart while everyone was watching a dude drop to his knees

Magnolia Rose

It's a choice to be audio only, they aren't going to cater to those people specifically. And having better visuals doesn't destroy audio?

Mateter

I know they are focusing on quality and I appreciate that, but it still really hurts to hear. Especially since a while ago we used to get 2 episodes + a rolled for each every week, and it’s been slowly going down ever since.

Anotherdragon

The choice is completely understandable but its a bit disappointing that the amount of content patrons get each month keeps dwindling.

Nova

I've been listening to JRWI since Fated. I was there for the wipe of everything pre-Riptide. I can say with confidence that they have gotten worse and worse about considering audio listeners over time. They do more visual bits that they don't bother to describe to audio listeners. They prioritize going over the top with visuals (new intro animation, DND figures, etc.) without providing descriptions. When did people decide that podcasts were to be a visual platform rather that the audio platform it originated as. If I wanted to watch a big overproduced DND show I'd watch d20. The joy of jrwi for me has always been listening to these jokesters tell me a story and make me laugh, not epic production value and less content

Amy Waller

How many episodes of Riptide are left roughly?

TheSkinMan

So essentially I’m paying for 12 episodes a year now…? Can’t say I’m too happy about this change, as much as I am enjoying riptides return

TheSkinMan

I share this exact sentiment, nearly word for word 😞

Crab Crafting

Yep. JRWI used to put out a session every week. I get that they have the studio now and their prop work has been awesome, but I listen while I take walks and wash dishes. The studio and props don’t do anything for me and they’re slowing the show down to the point that we’re doing a session every three weeks, like wtf…

crimsondotnet

thank you for the update kings !!! sososo hyped and cannot wait to see what's in store :DD

crimsondotnet

?? this isn't getting worse this is them ensuring we get the best quality eps we can ??? they're people too, not just content machines

Adam Green

I honestly might prefer a more simply done show. Don't get me wrong all the cool sets and costumes and dungeon maps are phenomenal. But what made me love JRWI wasn't this big theatrical exposition. It was just 4 dudes in a discord call shooting the shit. I wonder if there is a balance between consistenly frequent content and increasing the theatrical nature. Just food for thought

lola

i do feel that consistently putting less and less content on patreon while still asking for the same price is getting worse unfortunately

Dan

As long as everyone is having fun take your time.

void

I mean it’s no necessarily unreasonable, but if the amount of content is dropping then so should the price

VENDETTA

while part of me agrees, its also their campaign, we are just watching it! Im sure they love doing all the extra stuff for their characters and lore in which they have poured their hearts into for the last several years

xander

i dont agree. riptide is free and they aren’t dropping the frequency of patreon-only episodes

VG-S

I see your point, and I'm also dissapointed that we wont get content as frequently, but I'd much rather they delay episodes and make sure they're of good quality, than get something rushed. Plus, they can always finish and release an episode earlier than expected, but they can't undo low quality without re-shooting the entire session, taking even longer as a result. They said themselves that this isn't permanent, just until the filming for riptide is done.

Brandon Vasquez

So being a patron means less and less? I love the episodes since the return but with more and more cutbacks it's seeming like there's less and less reason to support it at this point.

Micah Crowther

You are a growing show and I appreciate all the work you all have put into it! I understand the frustration but I also know there isn't another show like yours out there. That's irreplaceable for me!

Munoz Adan

It’s ok jrwienies one week is nothing to us✌️

c

will one shots/member campaigns still be bi-weekly or will they follow the same schedule?

Eggyneer

I understand wanting to take longer to make better quality and more consistent episodes but PLEASE we need more stuff to fill in the gaps between episodes 😭 I'm paying a crisp benjamin a year, and all I want is something like The Council where it's you guys shooting the shish for like an hour or 30 mins a week bro PLEASE or maybe even a tour of the new studio I DONT CARE I JUST NEED ANYTHING TO GET MY FIXX PLEAASSSEEE

Velcrow

I could never be mad at you guys, however I really wish there was more content to justify the patreon pay wall. Even just some low stakes small content like you guys just talking. I would tune into that in a heartbeat, Everytime. I don’t want to tell you guys how to run your show but it just feels like a bit of a stitch up at times

kyle

if you were able to read, they stated it's temporary

TheSkinMan

I am perfectly capable of reading, but temporary could mean from May to January, or whenever it is they finish filming. I understand them taking their time to perfect the episodes, but as of lately the amount of content on the Patreon has dwindled significantly, and considering Riptide is a public campaign I am essentially paying the same amount for substantially less.

Melody

I think the issue with that is the whole studio they have would be slightly less worth it, and considering how much effort is being put into campaigns and how much better they feel with live props, audio only just would not hit the same whatsoever. Not to mention even if it was audio only, they would most likely want to try to create a far more immersive audio design still. I think as of the studio, jrwi has never been better and waiting just a bit longer for some episodes is worth it.

Fluffy The Cat

I completely agree with this. I do fully understand them wanting to have super cool battle maps and I'm really glad they do, it's better not just for the visual listeners, but the players too. But god have they dropped the ball on describing stuff. Like before when they played online they'd have to describe where they were moving to the DM, so the listeners got to know exactly what was happening too, but now since they have a physical map they have much less to actually describe and it really hurts the experience. It's become harder to visualize the battles in my head with the lowering amounts of detail and it's very sad. I still absolutely love the show and it's still fantastic, but moving away from being an actual podcast, and now releasing even fewer episodes really doesn't feel good

Susie Reed

Hey JRWI crew, I’m cheering you guys on. Newer listener here, but I really appreciate all the talent and effort that goes into your creations. I’m just on here so I can listen to the suckening with my husband- we both LOVE it and it’s AMAZING btw 😂👌 Worth the money. I’m also greatly enjoying the OG riptide episodes on Apple Podcasts for free. There’s so much quality, funny content you guys have made. We were created to be creative, so enjoy what you do! 🫡❤️

Cole

I joined the Patreon in 2023 for Blood in the Bayou and the podcast is as amazing as always with the additional production managing to make things better exclusively but the dwindling of Patreon content makes it hard to continue justifying the cost

Jcat379

I think we really need an actual pinned schedule with maybe two months worth of dates. Even if things switch around a lot, I would still like to know when a show comes out like Unwitness, if it's weekly, biweekly or monthly.

mikeymoistmouth

Nice update I enjoy being informed I do have questions about recording the episodes. 1. When you guys record is it all focused on a single campaign or others at the same time? 2. How long do you guys spend at the studio itself? 3. How often do you guys travel to the studio? I also appreciate the members of the crew working their asses off to keep the quality top notch keep it up guys.

Kolby

Love this show and I do love the new things they’ve been adding, but I hope we can get back to just more consistent releases, and more Patreon/member content (whether that’s a series, one shots, etc) Also please Biizzzlllyy, give me Prime Defenders Season 3, and my life is yours!!!!!

JustTheLad

Honestly, for those who've been here long enough, disappointment shouldn't be a surprise. Even before the patreon changes they weren't fulfilling the promises of each tier, such as the lack of Prime Defenders GM Notes uploads. And after the changes, it only got worse. We went from two campaigns, four episodes a month, to now one episode monthly with maybe a one shot. Remember when they promised behind-the-scenes esque content to make up for the lack a patreon campaign? The Patron count for Convergence being remade was YEARS ago at this point, and we have not even a whisper about it. The funny thing is, none of this is going to change, because both they and us patrons don't seem to care. Each update I see is worse than the last, and we just seem to eat it up. They don't have to do anything because they know they'll get their payment each month regardless of what they do. I have seen so many comments from prior updates from patrons concerned with the direction of the patreon, and not only were none of the concerns addressed, they were criticized to hell by a bunch of people who didn't care as long as they got their scrap of roleplay for the month.

Dorrknit

I think most of us understand the hard work you put into the stuff you make but you guys also know that even if your content isn't the best it's the best for us and we'd love to see just anything. I saw a comment that said to just post shit like the council where you just talk for 30 minutes and honestly that would be amazing as well everything you do is really good because you put all of your hearts into it and we can see that even if it's 30 minutes of just nonsense rambling.

Adam Green

They also stated a 6 month hiatus that turned into nearly 2 years. I don't know that I trust their timelines.

Adam Green

What patreon exclusive content has dropped in the last 30 days that aren't just early release of riptide?

Rheamena

So you think it’s acceptable that patrons are paying the same amount for one episode every three weeks now, as they did for 8 episodes a month back in 2022?

Firn

Honestly, I think it's perfectly fine to prioritize quality. You are telling a beautiful story and I know you want it to be as perfect as possible, rather than look back at it with remorse and "We could've done this instead". That being said, if I were in your position I'd prb lower the price for some of the entry level tiers because it's just significantly less content you're putting out. As many people point out in the comments, it's just disappointing from value perspective. Regardless, I believe you're gonna nail the riptide ending and I hope there will be nothing but pride and fulfillment when you look back at this campaign. ps. Gillion should lose 2AC from shield coz he doesn't have a hand lol

Lex Hidlebaugh

Don’t listen to hate, yall are locked, do your thing

void

By delaying the frequency of riptide, the amount of rolleds in turn also decrease. If the amount of content for rolleds is being cut in 3, then it logically should not cost as much

xander

unwitness protection program

Gremlin 316

i love every campaign so far, a few campaigns are missing episodes, and i really hope theres a season 3 to prime defenders!

Velcrow

I agree with you to an extent, however they did audio only basically for a long time, so yes its obviously not as good as the studio but you cant say it wouldnt be something you’d enjoy when you likely fell into the show when they were audio only. The dwindling value of costs is a problem, we are paying money for one session a month, no matter how much you love a project, thats kinda crazy and needs to be addressed

Ponderhin

A triweekly schedule means less youtube uploads which means less money from ad revenue.... perhaps they should re-release the riptide character dice so they can get more money.... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Adam Green

I agree with this. We just want to be parasocial with the JRWI gang.

mushtton

One question, is UPP still coming back with Riptide May 2nd? I am very happy with the update though, I get some patrons getting upset and whilst it is vaild, there is still a huge backlog of content to enjoy and such. I do think they should fill that content void- like the behind the scenes stuff or maybe art, explaining production or the system. People have to keep in mind a-lot probably gets cut out or even redo or fixed in production. Though I became a pateron recentlyish so I have no clue how it would be with the Abab sheldue but there is a TON of content

xaeyrnofnbe

like other commenters have said, this change is somewhat understandable but deeply disappointing. this, along with the bizarre choice to prioritize new algorithmic viewers over longtime fans on the youtube channel. it has all been increasingly frustrating. if nothing changes for the better (more frequent main series uploads, lowered patron tier benefits/cheaper tiers, what-ifs coming back, etc) i will probably be unsubscribing from the patreon as soon as i'm caught up on Judgement, as right now the price i'm paying for the ever-decreasing amount of entertainment is just getting ridiculous.

xaeyrnofnbe

yes, exactly! the fancy stuff is neat, but the lower production quality and handmade feel was what brought me to the podcast in the first place, as opposed to other similar ones which felt intimidating and lacked the lighthearted, personal quality that jrwi had.

QueenPickle

And then bro came back and all the sudden we all hate him! (Can someone please explain WHY everyone seemed to hate his guts?)
