Kinda late, but even the mundane or ‘time-wasting’ rp endears me to the characters so much. It adds a lil extra flavour to the in-between moments before combat or dramatic moments.

Yeah I agree that the relationship could go either way, while William does like vincent in that way it is very debatable if Vincent does, it needs to play out first, and there is a high friend zone chance

Personally I don't really like the idea of "side quests" from a narrative perspective, spending a lot of time not moving towards the main goal that was established for the story isn't interesting to me, but then again most of Riptide works like that with an individual island arc barely advancing the mysteries or the overarching goals so it might just be my preferences not lining up with what the jrwi boys think is fun.

On the flip side of that, I absolutely LOVE side quests. They tend to be some of my favorite arcs and further character growth many times. I mean, I spent 500 hours in Skyrim before I beat the main quest...

I agree that the Prime Defenders don’t really suit Call of Cthulhu but I think a Prequel One-Shot exploring Williams backstory in Deadwood using the system would be sick!

Oh I mean in games it's fun, because you're in control, but watching a story where the characters spend extended periods of time not doing something that's established to be really important isn't so much for me. I feel like if a plotline is significantly developing the character then it isnt REALLY a side quest in a story like this as long as it makes sense for the characters to be doing it, because character development is one of the main goals established at the start. Either way, though, the roleplay and comedy is so good that it can carry the show anyway (it's why I still love riptide even though I think the story can be weak a lot of the time).

Sorry I feel like I just out of nowhere added a little note to shit on riptide and that wasn’t the intention lol, I really appreciate the characters and world you created and I like the show. For me I think the issue kind of comes down to the fact that there are all these really interesting mysteries and stories set up, but they end up kinda just sitting there in the background most of the time. A lot of things DO work with a bunch of one off adventures in a chain held together by a background overarching plot, but with Riptide I feel like the way everything is set up with that much to explore in the main goals makes that structure less effective, where you spend like 3 whole episodes at a time before achieving any movement towards the established end goals. Part of it is also character motivation. Chip’s goal is to find the black rose pirates, and Jay’s goal is to find out what happened to her sister, but because that’s not what the story ends up being built around it seems like those character motivations aren’t really being progressed towards and they aren’t putting in effort to make that happen. Gillian is kind of the exception there, because his motivation of wanting to go back to the undersea actually IS not really being progressed towards because of the banishment, and his real thing is being a good chosen one and making the world better by destroying evil, which he does in basically every episode. There’s also a lot of big mysteries, and even though the players are clearly interested in them, it seems like the characters aren’t working towards solving them because most theorising is done out of character in the rolleds (which I assume comes from a place of them knowing you’ll do a cool reveal eventually and wanting to wait for that, but that doesn’t really feel satisfying, especially for things like what’s up with the Sakura sea which they could just ask someone about.) It’s really just that I feel like there isn’t enough action on motivation on the characters part and narrative momentum in the majority of episodes towards their goals, which makes things feel really slow and makes it seem like the plot is something that happens to them instead of something they go out of their way to do.

Personally I hope they don’t. It started out as just friends so it’s really just a bit that’s kept on going. And plus, a relationship between player characters seems awkward imo.

I was very happy to hear about Dakota's enhancements. I have a character that I have been writing for about six years now. She also has a mechanical heart that runs on a mysterious liquid energy source and it goes way too fast, and recently (a month or two before Grizz mentioned anything about Dakota doing it) kicked a moon in half. Her personality, however, is much more like Gillion's, and last year she even had an experience that was almost identical to Gil's time in the luxbris pearl. In short, stop stealing my stuff! /lh (but i do love it so much)

I really want a just roll what if where the PD or the Riptide Pirates go to Blood in the Bayou and just destroy every monster with their super power shenanigans, just switch the system but keep the setting and watch them murder everything. Just for that catharsis after the absolute terror the creatures have put me through.
