Shock and awe is the term used for the United States military operation against Iraq and Hussein around this time, thus all the Sadaam references

Daniel Hernandez

When we (the U.S) invaded Iraq, we started it with a “Shock and Awe” campaign. It’s a pun on that lol. I’m 38, and the War on Terror was a big part of all of our lives when I was in high school. There’s a ton of references to the war in Iraq and the broader War on Terror throughout AD’s three season run. You might have to be American to get them 🤷🏻‍♂️

Looking especially forward to episodes 16 & 17 comping up. Maybe my favorite episodes of the 1st season.

Out of all the running gags on this show, allusions to incest may be the most common one; it's up there, at least. And like others have said, there are tons of references to the "War on Terror" throughout the show. A couple background jokes: the undercover agents are in a van disguised as a mobile pet grooming business named "Blendin." And it's implied that Mr. Daniels, the former ethics teacher, had a stroke after Maeby asked him to the school dance.

i think about "Clean the dog! We are cleaning the dog!" at LEAST once a week

Stormy Waters

I think this might be one the top tier episodes of series.

Hendo: "The show is great. Let's hope it continues like this." Everyone who's seen the rest of this season and Season 2: "It somehow gets even better."

KM

They're following the episode order from the DVDs, so for them that might be episodes 17 and 18.

I love getting reminded every once in awhile that Michael might be the worst of the bunch but he's so self righteous it just gets played for laughs

Also I think it was confirmed that was the same stuffed dog from Scrubs, in the one episode Heather Graham was in

This show really caught the post-9/11, George W Bush, GWOT era perfectly, and was one of the only sitcoms to actually satirize it.
