Have you seen Michael Douglas in 'Wonder Boys' (2000)? One of the rare times my hometown got to recognizably play itself in a movie or TV show. The director's previous movie was multiple-Oscar nominated 'L.A. Confidential', so he attracted a great cast who wanted to work with him--Frances McDormand, Tobey Maguire, Robert Downey Jr., Katie Holmes, Rip Torn, Richard Thomas, and in early-career bit roles, an actor from 'Firefly' and another from 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia'. Some people have noted plot similarities to an earlier Coen brothers movie, but Michael Chabon's novel 'Wonder Boys' predates the Coen film by more than 5 years. Chabon went to university in Pittsburgh and the two novels he wrote about the city have great feel for location--I've met him several times at events and he's a fascinating guy to talk to. I keep hoping his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel 'The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Klay' makes it to the screen in some fashion; it's loosely based on the early days of the US comic book industry and the many European Jewish refugees who worked in it, but has some amazing story tangents,
